Does anyone know what may be causing this?

Hello everyone,

For about two weeks, I have had a difficult time urinating. At first, it was difficult to get the stream going. But once it started, I had no problem continuing it until I was finished. That turned into struggling to get a stream moving at all. As it currently stands, it is very difficult for me to urinate, and when I do, very little comes out, and the stream is generally very weak. It is almost as if I have to force myself to urinate. I am drinking tons of water and fruit juice - but, to no avail. I do not even know where the fluid is going, considering how it is not coming out as it should. In the beginning of this problem, I would drink tons of fruit juices and teas, and for some reason the urine would come out clear. Does anyone know what may be causing this? Is it a medical emergency? I would appreciate any answers.

PS - I am having no problem ejaculating or getting an erection, and my semen appears normal.

Can you notice a worsening of your symptoms still now upon urination?

Has it plateaued and stayed the same?

The easiest answer, but of course inconclusive, is to say that somehow your prostate became enlarged (perhaps through too much sitting, driving, biking, etc) and is clamping down on your bladder neck.  Do you partake in activities which involve potential prostate inflammation?

If you are retaining and are not able to self cath it can be a medical emergency!!  You need to let the doctor know ASAP!  Many things can cause retention, including infection, prostatitis or even from straining to get the urine out.  Straining is the worst thing you can do and can make the problem so much worse!

My bladder shut down about 2-3 years ago now. I can self cath though, and since I have catheters on hand it was not a medical emergency,    We think it could be from my medications but it could also be connecting with some of my medical issues.  There are two medications they make for men with this problem, that my uro found seems to work for women too.  I am on Flomax and if i go off or even on it if I am under a lot of stress my bladder shuts down!

As I said it is very important to let you doctor know and as soon as you can.  There a couple things I learned from myself and others that might help...., until you get a hold of the  doctor.

AZO standard is an over the counter med and it helps me when I do shut down, even my uro did not know it would help!  I called the company and was told that it does help relax the muscles and can help with retention etc. as well!  Other's have told me getting into a warm tub and urinating there helps as well, of course shower immediately after ward but getting the pelvic floor to relax helps!

My pelvic pain Physical therapist told me for kids they tell them to let
all the air out of o my lungs basically to relax, like a big exhale...
I am a woman so rinsing with a periwash bottle helps.. and of course the old let the water run.  BUT

JUST ONE THING DON'T WAIT TILL IT IS AN EMERGENCY... IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO URINATE TODAY YOU NEED TO GO TO EVEN A WALK IN CLINIC or somewhere!!

HOPE THAT HELPD
