Sorry I also forgot to mention that you should rest as they might have told you. Sit or lay around the house. Avoid lifting or any moderate avtivity. Keep your feet elevated.
As for discomfort, cold packs might provide some relief. Sits baths will be of benfit as well. Should you develop a fever, get medical help as soon as possible. I had situations where I went to work in the morning being fine but by coffe break at 9:30 I was feeling seriously ill. Make sure that if you notice anthying out of the ordinary to seek help. It is very easy for this type of infection to cause a kidney infection as a secondary infection.
I know how painful this can be and how fast things get serious. I used to work as a heavy duty mechanic and laying on a cold cement floor in the winter time might have effected this as well.
Hi, From the age of about 30 in 1995 until several years later in 2003, I used to get either epididymitis or orchitis about every 3 to 4 months. I used to end up being admitted four about 3 to 5 days at a time. During these times in hospital I received many different antibiotics. They would usually prescribe Cipro for a couple of weeks once I returned home.
My first few infections of the urinary tract were also combined with prostatitis. In 2003 I ended up in emergency surgery to have my left testicle removed due to a straph infection. Just 2 years earlier I had a vasectomy in the hope that infections then coud no longer travel down to the testicles. While I was in hospital I was given a special antibiotic to combat bacteria that don't need oxygen to survive.
Prior to having had so many antibiotics, I never had any digestic problems. Now I'm constantly bothered by indigestion bloating and stomach cramping etc. Long term use of antibiotics kills off the needed bacteria in our digestive tract. In order to combat that again you will need to eat yogurt or take acidophalis.
You will need to decided the benefits of antibiotics. For myself, had I not received the antibiotic treatment in 2003, I would not have been able to survive the infection. My left testicle had become necrotic and the testicle and contents of the left scrotum was removed. The scrotum was left open since they were not sure if more tissue had to be removed. I was in isolation and for the first few days after the surgery they were unsure if I could combat the infection.
From my own experience I know that everything was started with prostatitis. This then progressed to kdiney infections.
We have to be careful with the use of antibioctics. You must follow the course of medications that are prescribed to you by your doctor. Itis better to be on a lower dose of antibiotics to ensure that the infection is cleared up. If the infections don't clear and go undetected for a while, antibiotics become less and less effective as the bacteria or viris become inmune to the antibiotics.
Most doctors will not prescribe antibiotics if they don't feel that this is the way to treat an infection. In my situation I have come to recognize the symptoms early. Then when I do need to see the doctor, an infection is first confirmed by urine and or blood samples. I also keep extra Cipro on hand.
The cause of prostatitis leading into orchitis or epididymitis is still poorly understood.
I hope that this information is useful to both of you.
Take care,
Ron
I do not have the answer to your questions other than to suggest you do what your doctor says and if you have doubts, you have the right to get a second opinion.
I currently have epididymitis and it is very unpleasant. I am supposed to take Cipro for 10 days and hope that is all but the doctor said I may need a longer course if not better after 10 days.
