Newely Married New to sex

My husband and I have never had to worry about STD's or anything along those lines b/c we are new to sex.  We have only been married a couple weeks but we have both developed bumps and redness, it is itchy and his penis is dry and flaky.  Although I knew it wasn't a STD I did get checked and my tests are fine.  We want to enjoy sex as a couple and this is seriously effecting it.  It stings when we have sex and I don't know what to do.  I was thinking about douching to clean it out but have heard negative things about it.  PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi,

It sounds to me that both of you suffer from a yeast infection. Intially only one partner can have it. Women can have candida infections and not being aware of it.

Candida can be the result of having been on antibiotics, but it can also be caused by having a lot of sugars in your diet.

The red little bumps can be the result of the yeast infection. If your husband is uncircumcised, then the candida will be more concentrated on the glans and the foreskin.

My wife and I have had this several occasions. It is important that bot of you are treated at the same time. If only one of you was treated that it would be possible to pass the infection back to the partner. While on treatment you should abstain from intercourse as this would defeat the purpose.

Both of you should be treated with some thing like Canestan. For you it can be a combination of a cream and supposetories, for your husband it would only be the cream.
It is important that he covers all the surface of of the penis. If your husband is uncircumcised, he will need to retract the foreskin cover the glans and foreskin, then return the foreskin to the natural position and cover the remaining skin of his penis.

For you it would be best to use both the supposetories as well as the cream. Be sure to cover the surface of the exterior part of the vagina.

Do this for at least a month, and then have your doctor check both of you to determin if the infection is gone.

Here in Canada Canestan and simmilar products can be purchase over the counter. However it would be best to see your doctor to make the right diagnosis. If this is the cause of candida (yeast), you will easily recognize it should it ever recur.

God bless,

Ronald

Sounds like a bummer!
I would not recommend douching.
Your partner may benefit from a non-scented skin lubricant (Lubriderm) or hand cream applied 1-2 times per day for a week or so. Do not have sexual intercourse until both of you have had your tissues return to normal. When you do resume, try a water soluble lubricant such as K-Y jelly, Surgilube, or Astroglide (all are over the counter, quite slippery and easy to clean up when you are finished).
