Inflamed Prostate

Hi,

I finally went BACK to a doctor so that I could get some help about my urinary symptoms.  I was reluctant to do this because the other times that I went to a doctor while here in Afghanistan, I was given treatment for every kind of bacterial drug there is as well as flagyl for trich.  Well... the last doctor I saw placed her finger up my butt and told me that I definitely had an inflamed prostate.  She has put me on 3 weeks worth of ciprofloxacin.  I believe tomorrow will be my first week.  I don't seem to suffer from "dribbling" so much these days, but I do get these spasmic type sensations off and on.  It is not painful, but it is definitely not normal.  I do have a slight dull pain in my groin area on the left side.

I don't have the greatest confidence that ciprofloxacin is going to relieve these spasmic type sensations that I am referring to.  I have heard of anti-spasmodic drugs and/or alpha-blockers, and the doctor even said that if I don't have total relief after the three week time period that she would consider something like Flo-max.

What I REALLY want to do is see a urologist... but I have to get a referral for that.  I will probably be back in the states three weeks from now, and I do plan to see a doctor at that time.  Is there ANY advice I could get in regards to these symptoms and a possible plan of action?

I want to mention that during all the time that I was experiencing these urinary symptoms, I suffered from an annoying anal itch CONSTANTLY.  This had been going on for months, but now that I have been on Cipro it has not bothered me at all this entire week.  I am a hetrosexual male... so nothing has ever gone up there if you know what I mean.  I don't know what was causing the anal itching, but I'm wondering if the fact that it has stopped since this current regimine of antibiotics is related.  From what I have read on the internet, bacteria is seldom the cause for anal itching.

Thanks for the reply.  It is a discouraging condition, but it seems that it is not all that uncommon.  I just hope I can find SOME relief.  You are right.  I'm not in much pain... just some discomfort.

Hi,

I have been suffering from prostatitis since about the age of 22-23 up to current age of 44.

I have been placed on Cipro for many times, this is to ensure that any infection will be cleared up.

To deal with the symptoms I have had Buscopan tabs as well as Indocid (not sure about spelling of this) suposetries. It gives some relief, but at worst a hot bath will give short term relief.

Other than this I am not aware of anything that would be of benfit. It was hard for me to make it through a day working as a heavy duty mechanic. I know what it is like.
Talk to your doctor a about these medications to try and see if they are of benefit for you.

I'm currently on Morphine to deal with other pain problems as well, but I feel that this might it be to early for you to be on Morphine.

There are also some herbal meds that provide some relief according to others. I have found very little relief in herbal remedies, but others have had good results.

God bless,

Ron
