Prolonged Vit D-25 OH

I have PSC and it's advanced so it's probably been chewing on my liver & bile ducts for 10 years or so, who really knows. I have medical records up to 7 years ago and my Vit D-25 OH has been chronically low for at least these 7 years. It's been bouncing around 7 or 8 ng/ml when it was measured. Even with an auto-immune and cholestatic liver disease, isn't this a bit extreme? Is there something else lurking in the background that maybe yet undetected?

I've only recently become aware of it and really know very little about the issues affecting it. And yes, I'm pretty messed up physically due to bone pain, weakness and peripheral numbness.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I had a vitamin D level of 30 nmol/L (12 ng/ml) and I live in Queensland Australia and have a tan. My reasons for vitamin D deficiency includes magnesium deficiency and hypothyroidism.

I thought my vitamin D levels were optimal so I only requested a vitamin
D test just to double check after reading the long list of health conditions associated with vitamin D deficiency notably the increased risk of cancer.

When I finally was able to increase my vitamin D, the pain in my hand went away and my immune system improved dramatically. I know when I'm starting to drop in vitamin D levels when I have to clear my throat due to excess mucus.

I posted an indepth list of reasons for vitamin D deficiency on another answer....

Thanks for the info. We'll see what the the doc comes up with. Her concern is the other craziness going on. Apparently I'm her first PSC patient ... glad I could add a little variety to her practice. Hopefully I haven't suffered any permanent damage due to the length of the deficiency.

Thanks again.

How long have you been low? Do you have osteopenia yet?

I was just made aware of this because I've added a new rheumatologist to go with my new hepatologist and my new PCP. Needless to say, I've had horrible luck in the past with doctors and my recent health issues have finally got my undivided attention. Just a typical guy, ignore what should be obvious symptoms and just keep going until it became impossible to do so. Will be meeting a new surgeon/team on Thursday for other nastier issues but I digress.

You are correct. How previous doctors could see those numbers and not even mention anything seems criminal. My fault as well I suppose for not paying closer attention to my own medical records. The thing that concerns me is that I do eat well and do get out into the sun fairly often but still have such dismal levels. It's the reason I'm here with this post .... very puzzled. Unfortunately, cancer is back in my life but I haven't had it for 7 years so hmm??

My vitamin d level was 7 in January and my doctor told me that is severly low. I too suffer from severe bone/muscle pain, numbness among several other symptoms. You should call your doctor and ask about it and ask why they never did anything about it. I hope for your sake they do something about it soon.
