Vitamin d defiency scares me

Hi I'm new to this forum. I just wanted to know what kind of experiences people have had with vitamin d deficiency. Just some background I'm 24 years old, vegan diet, no history of health issues besides an abdominal hernia relatively healthy until recently. My vitamin d was 9.  Mine is almost ruining my life. I have been having symptoms for about a year now but not until 2 months ago was I diagnosed. It all began with feeling a little of balance when I walked and progresses to muscle fasisculations(spasms) especially when I am awoken abruptly from my sleep. The weirdest part is that when that happens I experience spasms in my scalp muscles and it goes away when I gain consciousness. Also I have had periodic muscle weakening.  I noticed it first in my left thigh and I walk a little different because of it. I also have endures some bone pain. I am no where close to knowing when this started but since I am vegan it's hard to know since vitamin d is not a huge part of my diet. I have been experiencing anxiety because of all of these symptoms and looked at als or brain rumors and now I'm really scared. I have pretty much all of the muscles oft body feeling weaker and I don't know of it is just a vitamin defiency anymore. Recently I feel like I can't swallow and I've been taking 5000 mg d3 for about a month now.  Also I feel as if the left side oft face is getting weaker I'm not sure if it was always different Thant right but now there is some discomfort when I look up and even my left side of my scalp has been affected it is definitely weaker and when I raise my eyebrows it is as if my entire scalp moves. If anyone has experienced this please let me know I'm gonna make a doctors appointment but I'm terrified.

My story has been almost d same as urs...with a little diff. I am 36 yrs of age , vegan diet  & mother of twins. Just 3 mnths back I started experiencing d so called symptoms of vit d deficiency such as muscle spasm, pain in feet & back while walking. And believe me d pain till today is unbearable. After all d test done finally my doc advised me for this vit d & vit b12 test after which he would hav gone for MRI. Thankfully, d culprit was vit d & vit b12. My vit d count was 3. So my doc advised me for intake of bon k2 med twice daily, with Nuroday once daily & bon dk once weekly. My med started 10 days back, but sorry to admit my pain has worsen. Hoping that things will change with time.. I hav also started walking in sunlight for 30 min daily.

I was diagnosed with vitamin D level 13ng/ml in May 2013. At the same time I started nose allergy. My doctor recommended me 60,000 iu/ Per week for 8 weeks and then rechecking. I did not rechecked Vitamin D level. My allergy came back. However once again now I have started to take the same dose. But allergy  is still there , however under control. My Dr. says that it will take about 3 months to relieve.

The adult Human body can generate about 10 000 IU after 10 to 15 mins in the afternoon summer sun, and 20 000 IU after approximately 25 to 30 mins in the summer sun in noon.
Also, since Vitamin D is generated by the skin, you shouldn't be showering for 24 hours (otherwise, you will remove the Vitamin from the skin before its absorbed into the body).

As for raising one's Vitamin D levels in the body... I've done some extensive research on the subject and if you are going for supplements, then you have to get Vitamin D3 (as Cholecalciferol) and at least 10 000 IU per capsule.
Vitamin D2 is made from a synthetic form which is nowhere near as potent or effective as D3.

I got myself Healthy Origins, Vitamin D3, 10,000 IU, 360 Softgels (enough to last me a full year - economy packing) for $24 from iHerb website.
I ordered it recently around the holidays. There was some delay in the delivery due to non working days etc. but otherwise got to me when they wrote it would (took about 19 days due to the holidays and all - but otherwise, it would take about 2 weeks tops with slowest delivery which costs about $4).

The RDA values are nowhere near enough to raise one's Vitamin D levels or to keep them in the healthy range.
You'd need to dose yourself with at least 5000 IU or 10 000 IU daily to bring Vitamin D levels back into desirable range, move it even higher and keep it there.
Also, higher levels of Vitamin D in the body (about 100 ng/ml)  were associated with a much more powerful immune system and general well-being by some peer-reviewed studies.

So, I would personally recommend you take 10 000 IU of Vitamin D3 daily as opposed to much higher doses every few weeks or so.
There's no danger from that kind of an amount and it should be able to bring your Vitamin D levels in the healthy range in about 1 month - after which you may continue to take one softgel per day.

Its also very easy on the stomach and won't produce any digestive discomfort (same goes for Astaxanthin 12 mg) - while some other supplements such as Zinc, copper and Multivitamins should generally be taken with a meal to avoid stomach discomfort.

Finally, it is very difficult to overdose on Vitamin D3. For that you would need to ingest about a million IU daily, and even then, you'd simply have to wait a while for the levels in your body to stabilize before continuing... so 10 000 IU daily is quite safe and effective.

Im glad to find people in the same situation as me. 2 weeks ago I was diagnosed with vdd. My symptoms came full force when I was going to get my period 3 weeks ago. I dont know if PMS brought it on more or what. So 2 weeks ago I got my period and it was very irregular. I first I thought I might be pregnant. So On tuesday afternoon they did blood work. and found everything to be ok , but my vit d was at 15!

Symptoms I was having

Racing heart/ Heart flutters
Aches and pains/ Back
Tingling / hands and feet
Very Tired
Depressed
alot of Anxity!!
Foggy head
Hair thinning
Loose stool <----- Still have this  in morning
Weight loss / not sure if its because of stress from this
loss of app.

So doc put me only on 2000ius daily and recheck in about 3 months.

Iv been only taking it since 2 weeks ago.

I do feel alittle bit better. but its very slow going.

Im 30 years old. No other health problems. dont want to feel week anymore!!!
Like I said before Im glad I found this group to vent and Being not alone in this situation

My doc. was an idiot. Shes like everyone in the north east had this. So I think she was thinking I am making up all of the other symptoms!   I Felt discouraged after leaving her because she pinned it on me like I was crazy!

Im usually very heathy.

The weakeness of your face and the way u describe the change in your muscles sounds like a desease ive heard of but unfortunately i cannot remember the name, dosent mean u have it.I am also 24 married with two kids, not a vegan so i cant really relatebut my brother has vitamin d deficiency and his white blood cell count is very low which means his body cant fight off infection very well,he's 25.I recently found out about it afew months ago,i went to visit and saw perscription bottles in his room and got concerned n he told me.His docter gave him D vitamins and B12 to help with fatigue, because of his deficiency he dosent have alot of energy and the B12 helps with that.He dosent have any issues with balance or his muscles or face tht i know of but he did develope a huge lump in his throat. He's recently out of the military and uses his b.a.h for his docter visits. They were concerned since the lump in his throat was over a centimeter in size and that usually causes concern they say.Im not sure if that has anything to do with his deficiency but its a possibility since his immune system is not so strong. He told me that he has to go in for surgery and have a biopsy done which dosent mean he has cancer they say,but they want to remove a sample of the lump in his throat and run test to see whats causing it.He has not updated me yet so i dnt knw how it went or if he had surgery yet.i will find out..but definitly see a docter because there could be other things going on and u want to be sure of the problem so u can get help in resolving the issue.Dont wait any longer
