anyone been diagnosed with MS after finding low vit d level?

Hi everyone I am new here and soooo glad I finally found a forum for this! :) I feel like the only person who knows what I have been going through is my husband and thats only because he has been by my side the whole time. I have been to many many doctors and basically told I was crazy and should see a counselor finally in January I seen a Rhuematologist and he checked my vitamin d. It came back as 7.  So he started me on 4000 iu twice a day. My concern is that MS runs in my family and I read that low vit d can trigger it so I was wondering if anyone else here has been diagnosed with it after finding low vit d levels?  The symptoms are pretty much the same for both. I have an appt on thursday and plan on talking to dr about it but I also would love to hear some feed back from everyone. Thank you!

4 months back I was diagnosed with vitamin d deficiency with a level of 4ng/ml; extremely low. I had range of symptoms e.g extreme tiredness, severe anxiety, insomnia, sleep paralysis, explosive head syndrome, tingling and numbness etc. My first thought was I might have MS. And whichever disease I would look on internet I had majority of associated symptoms. This was due to severe anxiety caused by low vitamin d. A vitamin d level that low contribute to calcium deficiency which can host range of other symptoms e.g tingling and numbness, bad breath, weak bones, difficulty getting up, osteomalacia, abnormal hearth rhythm etc. Doctors said it was all in my head. They don't know about what severe deficiency could do. Deep inside I knew it could be due to vitamin d deficiency and so it is. Because I had a family friend who told me there was a lady who was vitamin d deficiency and she had the same symptoms I was having. It took her two years in getting diagnosed and treatment. Now after 4 months of supplementing I am feeling a lot better and I can definitely see light in the end. My level is in optimal range 50-80.
Turned out I don't have MS or any other disease. Indeed vitamin d level that low could cause all these sort of symptoms. My advice to you don't read on internet that I might have this and that; you know what, your symptoms are going to match in every category due to anxiety caused by low d. Just exercise a little whenever you have a little energy; go for a walk, be positive, supplement with d. It just takes time. Good luck

I can really associate with you...I think its hard to accept that just one vitamin Def can cause soo many problems. I researched every MS site going I felt (feel) so bad, now after finding this site I am calming down a little.

your vit d level is realllllly lowwwww so don't panic...just take the vitamin d3 dosage daily and you will be getting better.......I was deficient and my dr had me on d3 50000 daily for almost a year....and it gradually climbed...so take a deep breathe..you are going to be okay

Thank you! I am just getting so frustrated with doctors right now. I just read one of my hospital notes and the neurologist said I have a mental disorder and all my symptoms are just in my head. He only saw me for maybe 5 mins. I feel like I have to do all the research and figure out what is wrong with me and then fight to get the doctor to test me. What ever happend to doctors wanting to help and cure people... Thank you again and I will post this in the MS forum. :)

There are studies on-going about the connection between Vitamin D and MS. While I don't believe that any show any one cause for triggering MS, Vitamin D levels, even the lower end of normal, are showing up as interest.
Many MS specialists are asking patients already diagnosed to boost their Vitamin D levels in an effort to lower the relapse rates and severities.

My daughter has run at low normal for the last three years (at 35, on tests calling for 30 and above), and late 2013 was diagnosed with MS.  She is on 4,000 mg daily of Vitamin D3 at her MS specialist's request, but that used to be 50,000 Vit D2 weekly.  They monitor her levels of both D2 and D3.

You might wish to ask this question over on the Multiple Sclerosis forum, so that you can get answers from actual MS patients.
