US lab range is 30-100ng/mL. You need to be above 50ng/mL. Anything below should be considered deficient.
You need Vitamin D3 supplements, magnesium and Vitamin K2 (as long as you aren't taking medications that would conflict with K2). K2 distributes the calcium in your body and makes sure it's not deposited into your arteries. Magnesium and D3 get the calcium in your bones.
The only blood test that can diagnose vitamin D deficiency is a 25-hydroxy-vitamin D (25 OH vitamin D). Unfortunately, some doctors are still ordering the wrong test, 1,25-dihydroxy-vitamin D.
Magnesium is essential, and K2. Both work with the calcium in your body.
50,000iu D3 a week isn't too much. That breaks down to 7,000iu a day. You need to stay hydrated. Taking high doses of D3 at one time with a lot of water isn't good. That's why taking D3 daily in the 7,000iu doses would be better
Thank you very much for the replay. I indeed suspect toxity as I was very good at the middle of the period of taking Vit D. However, things started to be complicated at the end of the duration of my Vit d supplemnts. The tricky part is that I don't know how long does it takes for my body to get rid of the excissive amount of vit D.
I did not know about calcium absorption. I was at 12.5 on the vitamin D OH testing and have been trying for a few months to get level up. I am new to this but I also take calcium and magnesium daily as well. Should I not add those or is that a different problem inside the body you spoke of? Does the calcium excess happen often? Is it a supplement not needed unless a test states you are deficient in calcium? You got me wondering about calcium with my vitamin d deficiency, is it warranted?
Hello
The symptoms you have mentioned are suggesting excess of Vitamin D or calcium. The cut off level for toxicity of vitamin D level in blood differs according to different studies. The US endocrine society says that it is >150 ng/ml while Institute of medicine say it is >50 ng/ml.
In the presence of symptoms I consider this value of 94 as toxic level.
I would suggest you to get serum calcium, phosphorus and urinary calcium done.
The symptoms are not due to excess of Vitamin D but due to increased absorption of calcium and thus excess of calcium secondary to raised Vitamin D level.
Stop taking Vitamin D level.
In most of the cases the level gets normal without any treatment but if serum calcium level is very high consult your physician for further management.

When I first found out by 25 OH blood test for vitamin D was 12.5 I did not know much about vitamin D deficiency. I am a natural redhead and never spent a lot of time in the sun due to burning easily. I am now 61 yrs old and was diagnosed 10 years ago with fibromyalgia. I am wondering if a lot of my joint pain and muscle pains are happening now because of low vitamin d instead, It is like I have been in a bad flare for 4 or 5 months now. I was also given a script for 50,000 of D2 a week and then realized I still needed D3 the most. The D2 is just to get levels up faster but the D3 is what is needed so badly in the body. I ordered drops from Amazon for D3 at 2000 IU a drop. It is supposed to absorb easier than the pills. They were not expensive really, just 15.00 and they last for a long time. My mood has definitely improved but I do still have some muscle and joint pain in which some is osteoarthritis I am sure. So I have learned that even with my 50,000 a week of D2 that I still need to take 4000 sometimes 6000 a day of D3. I have some extra thirst and urination as well but I think I am taking the best precautions to get my D levels up and I will sure keep an eye on getting enough in the future! IT is a major game changer to the body and its functions.
