Losing weight isn't really about calories, though I'm sure you'll get some answers based on that. The speed and efficiency of how you metabolize what you eat is far more important. You shouldn't ignore calories, but an example I often cite is that fatty fish such as salmon is high in calories but nobody's getting fat from it, while white bread is lower in calories but metabolizes into sugar quickly and if not burned quickly can turn into fat. How well you digest the food you eat is also more important. What you eat, when you eat, how much exercise you get, etc. are more important than focusing on calories.
