As I said, I went on the Atkins diet years ago and had great success with it. I stuck to the basics of it for years. Menopause was one of my biggest downfalls also. I should have just went back to the strict low carb as soon as I started to gain the weight, but the weight came on fast, and as you get older, its hard to jumpstart a diet. Anyway, I had the same cravings when I started. Funny, I always had a sweet tooth but could care less for the chocolate. I really missed the cereals too. I agree eggs every morning is not thrilling. I was fortunate that I work crazy hours, so I dont really have a breakfast-lunch-dinner day, so I would eat the meats and cheese at any time during the day. I do want to tell you one thing I learned with this diet. Dont get discouraged in the first couple of months. It seemed like I wasnt going anywhere with this diet, and then, overnight it seemed, the weight just flew off. Good luck
I also just started the Atkins Diet. Between going through menopause and I quit smoking on 1/1/11 I've added on a bit of weight. The hardest part for me is the lack of sugar. I love chocolate and oh yeah my popcorn at night. It becomes a sweet and salty binge every night. Another hard one to give up is cereal for breakfast. Any ideas for breakfast besides eggs? I love them but getting really tired of them. Good luck to those of you on this diet. Would love to hear any tips to make the transition a lot easier.
I'm glad to see some positive talk about the Atkins/lo carb diet. I went on the Atkins diet about 6 years ago. I lost about 50 lbs. Once you get used to it, it's easy. And, I kept the weight off for the 6 years. I only gained back a few pounds when I started eating carbs again. You really get used to not eating alot of bread and sweets and it does not bother you after awhile. Unfortunately, what killed me was menopause. I gave in to the cravings for sweets and gained more weight back. So, it's back to the basic Atkins diet again. I think it'll be good for me overall. When I stuck to the Atkins diet, my blood pressure and blood sugar levels were great.
Low Carb is actually very easy to follow. The only reason people gain weight is because they go back to eating junk food. It in NOT strict in reduced carbs.
Good luck with your new plan. We will be here to help support you any way we can.
good luck... I lost nearly 50 lbs. on Atkins, 10 years ago.
And, I've only gained back 10 lbs. But, it's such a hard diet to follow
because it's so strict with the reduced carbs. Again, good luck.
And, feel free to ask me anything you want to know about that diet.
