is it menopause?

I am a 50 year old (peri menopausal) woman who within the last 2 years has gained 20lbs...Oh my gosh... I feel like a fat toad.. I currently weigh 135 and stand 5'4" and I haven't changed my eating habits (I've always eaten pretty healthy.. no red meat...as I can't eat ANYTHING that is CUTE and has a MOTHER and have always loved fresh anything.. vegetable.. fruits)  and I walk 3 miles a day.. plus ride my horse... and I just can't seem to loose any weight...Dang it!

Any ideas on what to do? OR am I just destined to be 50 and fat?

It's real easy to set up and use the food diary and if you need help, just ask.

Being 50 isn't the end of the world!!  Just remember:  You aren't getting older, you are getting better.

Thanks for your response... I will see if I can figure out how to use the food diary here.. (Remember... I'm 50 and not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to computers)

135 is not necessarily overweight for someone who is 5'4"

Here's part of height/weight chart that pertains to your height.

Height                 Small Frame              Medium Frame             Large Frame
  5'4"                      114-127                       124-138                       134-151

It would depend on your frame size and of course, you activity level and age have not been taken into consideration here either.  It's quite common for most of us to put on some weight as we age, but it doesn't have to happen.

Maybe you need to change up your exercise -- if you do the same thing every day, your body becomes used to it and it's no longer a challenge.

Additionally, as we age, it's normal for our metabolism to slow down some, which means we don't need as many calories as we used to OR we need to exercise more.  I had a hard time getting that into my  head, plus I am hypothyroid (gained right at 30 lbs in < 4 months), so I really struggle with my weight.

You might try using the food diary here on med help and see if you can figure out if you might be eating a few too many calories/day.
