Calories in, calories out

by diggers, May 16, 2006 12:00AM
I was recently on a great site that had a resting metabolic rate calculator.  I could not believe how much I was overeating.  The site said that most people underestimate how much they are eating and overestimate how much they exercise.  I believe it.  I'm 5'2 and my resting rate is 1383 calories that my body will burn just getting through the day.  I've counted calories for the past 3 days just to see what I've been eating.  I thought I was very cautious of what I ate but I was seriously wrong.  If anyone would like this site I think typing in Dr. Gay will work.

I think most of us have been blinded by the food industry!!

I agree with you. Putting it on paper is really the only way to know just how many calories we consume.  And you have to be honest.  It really doesn't take a lot of food to get 1200 calories in a day.  I think it would be great if restaurants had to list calories on the menus.  Even on the fast food list on the drive thrus.  Sure that will never happen, but if it did, I would think we would all pay a little more attention to how much we are really eating.  I have lost 50 lbs in almost 2 yrs.  I do try to write down what I eat, but sometimes I don't because I know I have had too many calories. I do work out 4-6 days a week to burn the calories, but I know that when I write down what I have eaten I lose more that week.  Really makes a difference.

I know, i just can't believe how much i was putting in my mouth.  Isn't is funny how we try to cheat ourselves!  Anyway, i feel more in control of what I'm putting in my mouth but counting the calories, which meant cutting a lot of calories, sure leaves one hungry until the body adjust to what it has to burn!

I wish more people were told the truth!
