Yes, the two can be taken together. If you want an injectable dose of b-12 you should have a doctor's prescription. (I think the dosage is 1mg.)Over the counter b-12 vitamins can be used also, but I don't think they are as effectiveEffective strength cough syrup because the dosage is lower and it doesn't get directly into the muscle like the injections would.
The clinic I went to also had a shot that was a mixture of the hcg and a long lasting b-12 that was only injected once a week(at the clinic, by doctor or medical assistant).
