Lexapro weight gain

by onaquest, Mar 06, 2008 01:03PM
I have been on Lexapro for 6 months. I too have gained about 10lbs to this point.  Increasing my exercise and eating less (or a clean diet) has not helped one bit, in fact, I continued to gain.  Has anyone been on a 10mg dose and dropped to 5mg?  Did this dosage drop effect your weight at all.  Lexapro has worked wonders on my anxiety and I would like to see if I find a way to continue taking.

Hi.. I used to be on 10mg and then I went to 5mg but that was when I was tapering off.  Now I don't take anything.  I really don't think that will help with the weight.  It didn't with me.  The only way I could keep from gaining was to walk a mile everyday.

I was on Lexapro about 4 years ago and I too gained about 20 pounds. I exercised and dieted and didn't lose a pound. I went to my doctor and told her I wanted to change to another medication. She told me Lexapro didn't have a reputation for weight gain, but that there is a first time for everything. She switched me over to Zoloft and the pounds fell off. My friend also took Lexapro a few years back and she too gained a bunch of weight from it. I recommend Zoloft or Welbutrin along with Phentermine 37.5. The pounds will fall off. Good luck!

I did cut back the Lexapro to 1/2 since I was having sexual side effects and it stopped working.  I also gained 10 lbs in about 5 months even though I exercise 5 days a week and didn't change my eating habits.I'm no longer on it because of that and the weight gain and just started Effexor.  What I don't get is how it can be that SO many people post here that they gained weight on Lexapro but every Dr says that's not possib.e
