What dosage of Topamax causes weightloss?

I just started Topamax.  I'm on 25mg/day and will increase by 25mg/week until I reach 100mg.  I heard the weightloss effect depends on the dose.  So, what dose did everyone here have their success?  And what type of diet/eating plan and exercise plan did you do to help it along?  I'm desperate to lose 40 lbs (half of which I gained on Zoloft-no longer taking).  PLEASE respond if you had any weightloss on this drug, I'm very curious.  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!  :)

i was recently put on topiramate for weightloss and to control my binge eating disorder last thursday and im currently at 25mg in the am and 25mg in the pm, im curious as to how u are doing?? keep me posted

i want to try and take biotin aswell with my topiramate but i read on a website that biotin can lower the effectivness in antiseizure medications...

thats what im doing im supposed to take 150 but am taking 125 but cutting it in half because of the side effects and also taking the biotin.

Hi Kiti33,
There are several Manufacturers of generic Topiramate.  Don't give up trying different brands.  They are allowed by the FDA to have a 20% filler rate. Which can affect side effects and potency levels and all manufacturers use different fillers.  If you can't get the Brand Name Topamax, then try the manufacturer Teva.  It seems to have fewer side affects in their Topiramate, compared to a few others that I have tried.  Ask your pharmacist to tell you what brand they use and ask them if they could order you another generic brand.  If not, try another pharmacy. Write down the brands you try on a "tried it list" and their side effects. Good luck.

I tried topomax low dosage I think 25mg unfortunately I didnt experience weight loss but I did end up with uncontrollable painful muscle spasms that left me in a wheel chair temporarily and on pain meds until it flushed out. :(

I'm suffering from chronic migraines on top of post concussion syndrome from a skiing accident.  I'm willing to try Topamax but very fearful about the hair thinning/loss side effect as I've already been experiencing this.  None of my Dr.s can figure out why other than stress.  I have 4 young children and my youngest has a lot of health issues which has been ver stressful over the past 4 years. I started taking Prozac 6 months ago which really helped even out my hormones but hasn't stopped the hair loss.  Was just wondering how many people experienced this side effect and how severely?  Thank you for your time!
