Planning ahead for 2 weeks of camping

We are going camping with another family (and probably plenty of visitors to the campsite as well) at the beginning of July and I am trying to "brain storm" on how to stick with this healthier-eating plan and still keep all the family members well-fed and satisfied! Ya know?

So far the "no-go's" are the turkey smokies and the lighter smokies b/c they are "too dry". I personally LOVE the turkey smokies with sun-dried tomato and basil so I will stick to those for me, but still searching for healthier options that the rest will go for.

One trick we learned last summer was to make S'mores with digestive cookies that have a chocolate coating on one side... less messy, easy and shhhh... don't tell the kids they are "better for you" then regular S'mores.

A few of my kids also love popcorn so we bought an "over the fire" popcorn popper and I will pack along the popcorn shakers. Lately the kids are really loving the All Dressed shakers! Yummy and not-so-bad for you!

I would love to hear anyone else's ideas for "better for you" camping foods/recipes.

Great idea for the spray dressing, kittengamer! Especially for on grilled meats. Will definitely be trying that out before we go too!

I really like your meal and snack suggestions tigerlilly!

Definitely will be heading to the local farmer's market when we get into the town we are camping at. The kids are hoping for fresh peaches and plums! I love that they are looking forward to fresh local fruit!

We have never camped for this long either kittengamer, and I cannot wait! Counting down the days.... LOL

I have bought the Oscar Myer bun length turkey hot dogs. They are not fat free or really much lighter than a regular hot dog. The light hot dogs are pretty good. I try to get things in the middle so everyone can enjoy. I also buy whole wheat buns and make plenty of healthy side dishes so no one needs to load up on 2 or 3 hot dogs at one time.

Here is some of what I would have,

~grilled chicken, baked pot and salad.
~hot dogs, baked beans and pickles
~turkey burgers on wheat buns, lt coleslaw and beans
~crock pot stew with biscuits
~crock pot chili with blue corn chips
~ribs, corn on the cob, and baked pot

I would have tons of fresh fruit and veggies, cheese and whole wheat crackers (wheat thins 100% whole grain are good), blue corn chips and salsa, definitely the popcorn. Oh and my favorite, celery with peanut butter and raisins A.K.A. Ants On A Log.

Have Fun!!! I love camping!

I have never been a trip that was that long! Sounds like a lot of fun. ^_^ I found this - I don't know if it'll help:

I know that for picnics getting pre-packaged salad bags & using spray on salad dressing make things a lot easier & less messy. The spritzers are also supposed to be good for spraying on grilled food. Now is a great time to make those kabobs too. ^_^ Letting kids make their own can almost be as fun as smores.
