I think that's the million dollar question isn't it. We all make New Years resolutions to lose weight and start off strong in January only to fall off the wagon by February. I have gained and lost the same 20 pounds multiple times in my life. My motivation is the best when I have a buddy doing it with me.. And if it's for a special occasion I hang up a picture of the dress or swimsuit I hope to fit into on the refrigerator and bathroom mirror. Another suggestion is to weigh weekly to track your progress. I also like the app, my fitness pal to motivate me. I wish you great success.
