Motivation or lack of!

Hi! I've only just downloaded this app! I intend to start again tomorrow! Although I've been saying it for the last few weeks now!! My problem seems to be exercise! Sounds daft but I can't seem to get the motivation to go to the gym during the dark winter nights?! After work I just want to go home and stay there, where it's warm! Luckily it's staying lighter now so hoping to start go now, but again I need that motivation, as all the hard work from last summer has been wasted and got me down!! Making me feel what's the point!!
Does anyone else feel like this over the winter period?!

All too often, we "know" we need to do something, but just can't quite do it, because it's more comfortable not to ....... those are the times, we have to "force" ourselves........ yes, I do that too; I have a neighbor who is only here during the winter and she loves to walk; I love to walk also, but after I've gotten up at 3:30 am to get ready for work and  done my 8 hr work day, the last thing I want to do when I get home is "more work" (aka workout) ......so what do I do??  I go walking!!  If I walk in the door, pick up the phone and call my neighbor to say "I'm ready", I'm committed and I can't back out......... If you swing into the gym on your way home, you can't back out........ Instead of going home to get your "workout gear", take it with you in the morning and don't go home until you've done the 30 minute workout....... you're free to leave the gym in your workout clothes if you don't want to shower/change before going home.......

This isn't easy and no one knows that better than I do.........

Hi,

Sorry for the delay, I fell off the wagon so to speak for a while. I am back on it now though! and more positive than ever as I have friends on a diet also so we are all encouraging each other.

Medication, I am on allot of things, Tablets for Epilpesy topamax, amatriptlyne for headaches, hormonine (HRT) lanzoprizole for a  hytatis hernia, and metazipane for depression. (few spelling mistakes there!)

All my food is either grilled, baked or boiled rather than fried, and I always  make sure i eat more than  1200 calories a day.

heres hoping this time I can stick at it... the days are far lighter now and with encouragment and compition from friends it should be easier! :-)

How are you getting along? Hope you are well!

Marie

What  medication(s) are you on?

Your food intake sounds reasonable, but it would depend on how it's all prepared.  Of course, grilled, baked or broiled meats, will have less calories than fried; chicken or fish, less calories than beef or pork.  Same goes for the potatoes, fried will have more calories than those prepared in other manners.

Do make sure you eat ENOUGH calories; not eating enough is just as bad as eating too much, as too few calories will put into "starvation mode", in which your body hangs onto fat because it thinks there isn't enough food being provided.

Hi,
Sorry for the delay! Hetic week/weekend!

So My food intake consists of on a good day cornflakes, then either salad sticks with humous (carrots, cuecumber, peppers, celery etc dipped in homous) then for an evening meal I would generally have meat, veg and a few potatoes or if Ive been to the gym I dont really fancy much so I would have a sandwhich or some toast. Sometimes for lunch I would have a sandwhich or some soup. I do have a sweet tooth so I would always have some kind of yougurt or fruit or sometimes even some small amount of chocolate bar only if I am within my calories though!!
Looking over my charts on the app, I have always been within my calories and eat between 1700 and 2000 on a very bad day for example when I have been soclialising etc.

I am on allot of medication, so I dont know if this has any effect?
Hope this gives you some idea?
I did loose 4lb this week! :-)

Sorry I wasn't here last night to respond. Great going with taking your gear to the gym instead of going home first........ see how little changes can help?

How about giving us an idea of your food intake - types of food you eat, how much at a sitting, etc - we can help you from there...... We'll see what "kinds" of calories you are eating - that's probably more important than when........

This is exciting...... go for it......

Hey! Well I did it!  I took my gym kit to work yesterday! Had a coffee an hr before finishing work for that extra boost and was actually looking forward to going! Had a great work out!! Plan to go again tomorrow!!
Now all I need to do is balance my calories! I think I'm eating the wrong amounts at the wrong times?! Too many at night too little in the morning for example so not burning them off? It's all a learning curve and lifestyle change though isn't it!!
Thanks for the advice! And I hope you guys can get motivated mow it's getting lighter too!! 

I totally feel the same and completely understand where you're coming from. I prefer walking and swimming, still bit dark for walking when get in from work and I've been swimming once this new year, just the motivation to go and hate going when kids are in pool. :( Bring on the spring so we can both get motivated x
