medical abortion; not sure if it worked?

yesterday at 1230 i took the 4 misoprosil pills for the med. abortion. almost imidiatly at the 1/2 mark i started to feel imense pain and cramping inside. then about a 1/2 hour after that started i started to bleed. but i only bled 2-3 times real heavy. and that was ONLY when i wen to the bath room. then i bled very little if all for the rest of the night. then today i bled only a very little more then my average period.(my average period is VERY light!) and i have no more cramping at all. did the abortion work? is most of it still inside me? i def. dont feel preg at all any more. and my feelings on being preg and the signs i notice when i first relized i was preg. were so strong i never even took a preg. test!!(my boobs shrunk almost as soon as i took the first pill at the doc. the day before.) i can freely enjoy smoking a cig now and drining coffee, getting drunk. ive got 3 weeks til the doc visit but im scared that will kill me if it doesnt come oout wat=y before then??

You should probably have a follow up within a week of the pills because of the risk of not passing all the tissue and some remaining and causing infection if it is left up there.  I had a mc in December and since my body wasn't passing the tissue/embryo on its own my obgyn recommended this procedure instead of the DNC because it is non-invasive, no need for anesthesia etc.  WELL, a week later I went to my doctor for a follow up ultrasound and he found two pieces of tissue that didn't work their way out...he wanted to give me more misoprostol to get them out because he said I could get an infection.  seeing as though I'd need to take time off, I asked if we could give it another couple days and follow up and see if the tissue was moving down and out on its own...luckily over the course of two weeks, it did.  BUT it should be monitored so call whomever did this and ask them for a follow up much sooner to make sure you passed everything and that there is nothing up there putting you at risk for infection.

you can always call your doctor and ask them if that type of bleeding is normal.  Just because you do not have an appt for 3 weeks does not mean you can not speak to one of the nurses.

again ladies- this is a pregnancy forum, not just women trying to get pregnant.  all different questions can come through here and if you do not like them, ignore them and do not tell people this is not the place, because it is the place.  there is no abortion forum on here.  maybe you should ask for one if you are going to continuously tell people this is the wrong forum.  or maybe change the name to TTC or currently pregnant forum.  you may only want it to be that but unfortunately it is not.  it is an open forum about every aspect of pregnancy or concerns and sometimes that does not always exclude abortion whether it is medically needed or chosen.

sorry for the vent i just feel that people are not being fair and are making this forum what they expect and not what it actually is.  this was in no way intended to target anyone or start a war, just an FYI that we are not being fair to everyone in the froum.

Poppi I don't think you're going to die. But if you feel sick, you need to seek medical attention. Call the clinic you went to and ask them for help. They should be able to refer you to a medical facility that is inexpensive or free.

You have got so much life to live! Get your life on track and hopefully one day you'll be able to have a healthy little baby. Stop drinking and smoking now, even though you're not pregnant anymore. It will save you money, make you feel better, and you'll be a lot healthier in the future when you do decide to have children!

i think by 1/2 mark, she means after the 1st *2* pills maybe? there's 4 total.....so maybe she means halfway through the meds?

medical abortion is by pills, if i am remembering right, and surgical is by DNC(and all that healthy sh*t)....

You said you took it at the 1/2 way point does that mean you carried the baby to 20 weeks before you decided to abort???? Maybe I read that wrong how far along were you?

I'm not sure I follow. Did you WANT to have an abortion or was this needed? I tried looking up what a medical abortion was but I see nothing about why it's needed. But I did find this..

Upon taking mifepristone at the clinic you may begin to bleed. As each woman's body is different, bleeding varies from woman to woman. Some may experience light bleeding much like spotting towards the end of a menstrual period. Others have heavier bleeding like their regular menstrual period, or like a heavy period. Some women do not experience any bleeding until taking the misoprostol.

Upon taking the second medication misoprostol tablet, cramping, bleeding, and clotting may begin as soon as 20 minutes. Within the next 6 to 8 hours, most women will miscarry. Cramping may come in waves with increasing and decreasing intensity. You can expect bleeding heavier than a menstrual period with large clots. During this time, you will pass the embryo although you may not see it since it is very small. The amount of bleeding when using the Medical Abortion is greater than with aspiration abortion

Risks

Vaginal bleeding with medical abortion could be extremely heavy. In rare situations it could require a aspiration abortion and very rarely, a blood transfusion. You will be given our 24-hour hotline number to call if you have any problems. Medical staff are on call at all times to answer your medical questions and concerns.

If pregnancy is continued after taking these medications, there is a high risk of fetal deformities.
