Birth Control / Period Question

Hi Guys, I just have another question. I have been on Marvelon which is an oral contreceptive for over 8 years now. It has made my period extremely regular. Being on it for 8 years, taking it has also become extremely regular. I never forget pills and I take them at the same time EVERY day.

Usually I get my period on a Monday. I can usually count down 3, 2, 1,  and know the EXACT time of day too. It usually sticks aroudn for about 3-4 days. For the cycle before my last cycle, my period came on Tuesday late at night. (out of the ordinary) It lasted until Friday with my normal 2 med/ heavy days. The cycle I just finished came on a Monday and finished Tuesday Wednesday morning. It was so light I only used two "thin" pads and two "regular" tampons. At night, I didn't even need to use anything.

I have booked an apt. for next week with my doc, but I am kind of worried. I have never had such a light, short period before. Any ideas on what could be going on? I have gained 10lbs. Maybe that is it? Could I be pregnant? Was this just how my period was this month? Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks guys

I agree with the others, sometimes your period can be off.  I did get pregnant on the pill though, even taking it right, so did my mom, we have a history in our family that I wasn't aware, found out after I got pregnant.  Anyway, just take a test if you are unsure.  I don't think that you would gain 10 lbs. that fast though, I'm at 22 weeks and up 2 lbs. so far, sounds unlikely to gain that much in the first month, but I guess possible.  You would be in big rouble though if you kept gaining like that ina a pregnancy.  I would call your Dr. and let them know what's going on.

Take a test to rule it out or confirm it and keep your appt regardless of the result.

I concur w/Andi as well...Your recent periods have changed, but only slightly.  One time when I was on the pill (loestrin, 8years) I SKIPPED AN ENTIRE PERIOD, obviously freaking out....  I ran to planned parenthood to get a pg test, and it was neg.  The nurse explained to me that sometimes your body just does something different, and that's ok.

It wouldn't hurt to see the dr.  If you buy an hpt, get an early response test, which very well may be more sensitive than the one your dr. would use.  I would take a test, since you just had a really light period.  It is possible that this could be implantation bleeding.

I really don't think that your pregnant, but maybe this is a sign that something isn't right. Good Luck...

Yeah, My period never really got heavy at all... It was brown for a while... a little blood... then back to brown. I guess you could call it heavy spotting. It had a lot of brown clots though too... Way more clots than I normally have. It was the weirdest period I have ever had. This mixed with my last post about my pointy cervix... I am wishing it was next week and I could see my doctor. I hope that I am ok.
