Missed birth control but no period!

My girlfriend takes daily birth control pills where she takes 3 weeks of pills and 1 week of sugar pills and has her period during that week. During her sugar pill week was the only time we had sex. Now, 2 weeks into her regular pills for the next cycle, she ran out of pills. According to her pills information, when she misses pills (which is what shes doing by running out) she should start her period, but she hasnt had it. Also she says that her breasts are sore. Could she be pregnant?? We want to take a pregnancy test but we dont know how long we should wait since we had sex during her period and we dont know when to expect the next one.

and the sex was of course protected by a condom
