Not BV, Not Yeast...what is it?

Good Afternoon! I have a quick question... there really is a lot of history that goes with this, but I will just give you the info for the situation at hand. I thought I was getting yet another yeast infection, or BV so when Diflucan didn't really help, I went to they Gyn and she said that there is no yeast and no BV. So I'm sitting here red, itchy, irritated. So my obvious question is why? I haven't changed anything that I use, still the same bath soap, laudry detergent, nothings changed. I went to the doc a week ago today and I still feel the same, and at times I'm feeling worse. She told me just to use Vagisil to help with the itching and irritation. I didn't start that till yesterday b/c I really didn't want to use it, plus I wanted to see if I was feeling any better, but I just couldn't stand it any longer. Could this just happen for no apparent reason? Will it go away? I have been diagnosed with BV and yeast numerous times in the past 7 - 8 months and now this is nothing? She said that it could be Vestibulitis, but when i read about that, it doesn't seem like it. Please any words of wisdom would be great!! I'm 24 years old, in a commited relationship for over 7 years and on the NuvaRing.  I'm thinking of going off the NuvaRing, although I love it, but I just want to normalize everything down there as much as possible, plus haven't had sex in a long time due to the irritation.  I am also thinking of trying this gel that I have heard good things about RepHresh, I don't know if that is something that may help, but at this point, I will try anything.  Thanks for you time!

This is so weird! You are telling my story! IT'S THE NUVA RING!!! I was on the Nuva Ring for over 2 years and I had all the same things you are going threw. I just finished my last cycle with the Nuva Ring and have switched to the patch because I just couldn't take it anymore. I truely believe that we are allergic to the "plastic" that the ring is made out of. I've been on the patch for 2 weeks now and ALL my symptoms I had with Yeast and BV are GONE! I came on here about a month ago because I couldn't stand it anymore but no one had had the same experience using the ring. I'm telling you, you will feel SO MUCH BETTER after you get off the ring. Good Luck! :o)

I think you need a second opinion.  Over the counter creams can do more harm than good. They contain ingredients that many women are allergic to and can actually create more problems. Also, since you have been treated for a ton of infections without a positive diagnostic test, it is time for a different point of view.

Try to find a clinic or doc that deals jsut with vulvar issues. Call around and ask the head nurse if the doc sees patients with chronic issues/pain or if she knows of somebody.  Obviously your the treatments that you have tried don't work for you.  Research vulvar disorders, like lichen sceloris, vulvar vestibulitis. Check out the symptoms and see if anything is similar. Also check out vulvar support groups for other ideas.

Either way, find a new doc.

Ask doctor about Lichen sclerosis. I had similar symotoms that came up, its auto immune so it can coem and go at will. Google it and see if you have symptoms!
