Reoccuring Yeast Infections Every 2 weeks

by forchemchick, Jan 20, 2009 10:21AM
In April I went back on birth control after being off of it for about 2 yrs. Soon after I got my first yeast infection in a while. I went to the doctor and she diagnosed me and told me to just use an OTC medicine. It worked but then it came back about 4 weeks later...and the cycle continued. I went to see another doctor and he thought the reoccuring infections were due to me going back on birth control and prescribed me different pills and told me to take 4 vitamin C's a day as well as take 1 diflucan pill for 4 weeks. Everything seemed to be going well until about 2 weeks after my last diflucan pill...I got another infection!! So they called me in one more dose of diflucan...it didn't fully go away. So then I went back to OTC meds and used the 1 days. The 1 days used to work for me but no longer do. After getting a few more infections 2 weeks apart I went and seen a different doctor and she was absolutely no help. She prescribed me Terazol if I got another infection but gave me nothing on why they kept coming back or how to prevent them from coming back. I am going to try the Terazol now since I just got another infection (again 2 weeks after the last). I have no health insurance and am paying around $200 every time I go, only to get another infection within weeks. I AM GOING CRAZY!! I just want to be normal again! I have been tested for STDs and everything comes back negative...I have been with the same partner for the past 7 mths, we dont use condoms, and he has been tested...please help me!!

forchemchick,  yeast infections can be tricky.

It sounds from your post that you believe there is a foreign yeast substance that occasionally comes in and invades - that's not what a yeast infection is.

In your vagina,  and your whole body, healthy  bacteria and yeast are in "check" with one another.  They operate as an ecosystem.

Yeast "infections" occur when the yeast suddenly blooms out of proportion and takes over,  and the bacteria are now out of check and the yeast is overgrown causing itching,  etc.

There is a reason that it's out of "kilter" in your body right now.  A new birth control pill is a good guess,  but blood and urine sugar levels also contribute.  Stress can make yeast bloom out of control too.

Has your doc recommended cutting off all white sugars, eating yogurt, and avoiding saliva contamination?  That means his saliva,  or yours that gets there during foreplay and then sex.

Best wishes.
