... I'm still bleeding, but it's like a period now.

So it's been nearly 6 weeks since I gave birth, and I had stoped bleeding completley at 3 1/2 weeks postpardum... And I got the Mirena IUD inserted on 7-3... I spotted for a few days, and now I'm bleeding like a full on period.
I'm breastfeeding so I'm not supposed to get a period.
I'm confused....
What could be going on?

Some women will get their period back despite nursing. Have you been nursing on demand? Not supplementing at all? Sometimes that can affect it as well. I was blessed to not have a period until weaning at 15 mos when I had the mirena in place, but there have plenty of women who despite being "on-call" 24/7 nursing to get their period back. You can rest assured that with the mirena in place, you have bene protected since its insertion, so waiting like with the pill or some other forms of birth control.

Give it time, it is really common to have period lighten dramatically over time, generally within the first year.

I'm pumping like 17 ounces a day now... and breastfeeding her.. My milk comes in so fast that when I feel the burning in my nipples I gotta run to the pump.. Luckily it all comes out in 5 min. :-)
Anyway, yeah, so I'm breastfeeding like nobodys buisness. lol.
The doctor said that the bleeding should be light, to spotting and go away in a few days. I had the spotting for a few days, and the heavier bleeding just started about 3 days ago. It seiously pours out and clotts up
Gr, You know how frusturating it is to be in the middle of July and not being able to wear my bathinsuit?! lol.
... Joking aside, I'm concerned about it.
thanks andi

Shoot, with my first I was bleeding up until 6 weeks PP, I didn't knwo better to take it easy and it was the holidays. Once i finally got the message, it went away and I didn't bleed again for nearly a year. With my second, I bled for 3 weeks, spotted a little when I had the IUD place at 8 weeks PP and didn't bleed again until i was in the process of weaning from my other sons last feeding, when he was 15 mos old.

Keep an eye on it for sure. But chances are it is normal or within a normal range considering where you are in the PP stage and having the iUD. Some women do see an increase in bleeding for a short while after it is placed.
