Yaz and side effects and benefits

I was told that Yaz is a new birth control pill.  I am used to 7 days of placebo pills rather than only 4.  Is Yaz's concentration any different from the common birth control pills? Is it like saying just taking longer birth control pills?  What are the side effects?  What are the benefits?  Has FDA approved?  Where i can search more about Yaz?  Will it affect my future plan of having a healthy pregnancy?  Also, i was told if i do want to get pregnant, i should wait 6 months after taking the birth control pills.  is that true?

The effects are really similar to when I was on anti-depressants.  I have gained some weight and my periods are rare and sex drive diminished and I just don't feel anything emotionally.  I feel pretty distanced from it all. My period pain however is very minimal when it used to knock me out. Also because I have very little emotional response, I am pretty even and not at the whim of my roller-coaster emotions.  I am a writer and although I hate having depression, I can't write when I can't feel.  The lack of periods alerted me to this problem and I will stop taking the tablets right now.

Hi Girls,

I can't believe everything that I am reading. I too was on Yasmin and for the first four months I was an absolute crazy person. I knew it was from taking the pill, but I was determined to make this pill work, so eventually my body got used to it. 4 years later (and only 2 months ago) I decided to stop taking it because it didn't seem natural to be taking artificial hormones. I also started learning more about natural, herbal medicines and I decided I didn't want to rely on artificial drugs for every little pain, cramp, or discomfort I felt.

I consulted a herbalist before going off the pill and she recommended detoxing a week before I stopped. It will take about 3-6 months for your body to fully rid of the hormones. It also depends if your pill administered either 1 hormone or both (estrogen & progesterone). I strongly recommend if you are seeking to take a more natural route for your body and for birth control, to consult a herbalist! Your body will not go back to normal if as soon as you go off the pill, you start taking anti-depressants!

I also wanted to recommend a great book I started reading, "The Garden of Fertility" by Katie Singer. If you are interested in your health and fertility awareness - there is so much you can learn from this book! She explains how you can chart your fertility signals to prevent or achieve pregnancy. She also discusses gynecological health at length. I haven't finished it yet, so I have a lot more to read up on.

Thank you everyone for sharing your stories! Everyone is different.. And getting of the pill will be individual and unique for all of us... All I can say is to do some reading, consult a herbalist, or a homeopath/naturopath and learn more about your bodies before putting another drug into it.

As for me, since coming off the pill,I have noticed myself a bit more emotional and sensitive, increased sex drive, and my digestion is a little off..(don't know if this is linked or not?) But I am so much happier now that I am not on it!

Good luck girls!
Take care

I was on Yaz a little over a month and got off it a  week ago today..  After having  anxiety,  nausea , constant  hungrier and wanting to sleep a lot along with being late on my period I had enough and got off the pill. I went to my obgyn and got on different bc and so far am fine. After I stopped taking Yaz I am not depressed anymore. I don't feel like I have to eat and eat all the time and my mood swings are somewhat normal. Save your money and health don't take Yaz!

Hey everybody.
I'm finishing up my second month of YAZ tonight, and have no plans to keep on taking it or ever taking it agian for that matter. This is the first birth control I've ever been on and the only reason I'm taking it is cause my irregular periods from so much excercising in high school. The YAZ did very much help with the irregular periods, but everything else seems wrong. I get really irrated, really fast and I'm actually a easy going person. I've had a lose of appite but when I'm on my period all I wanna do is eat, eat, eat. I had a surgery not to long ago and they weighed me in at around 217 lbs. And after my recovery time was through I started back at the gym and checked my weight and it was around 205 lbs. I don't know how well YAZ is working for everybody else, but it's not for me. I'm not taking next months supply I'm tired of being mad all the time.

I have been taking Yaz for almost two years. I was out to dinner with my friend who just recently had a stroke at 18!!!! I was cutting my chicken and my arm went numb, which I mentioned out loud. Her boyfriend called my fiance the next day to ask whether I take BC, because it bothered my friend that my arm went numb. My fiance told him that I take Yaz. He was very concerned because that is what my friend was taking when she had her stroke! Said the first thing that happened was her arms went numb and out of no where she had a full blown stroke. She lost movement in the right side of her body and lost her speech! The doctor later told her the most likely reason she had her stroke was her YAZ!

After reading the posts on this site I feel at ease, because now I know Im not the only crazy one. Since taking Yaz my acne went away and my periods became lighter. BUT I have been depressed, no motivation to do anything! gained 30 lbs and I am irritable constantly! I have seen countless therapists about my depression and I was told things like I have manic depression and one even said I could be bipolar. I have taken 3 types of anti-depressants and none of them worked! so I just gave up on that. Now I see it is because of the Yaz.

I have recently been having heart problems. sometimes after walking just through my house my heart will begin to race and i have heavy breathing as if I just walked up 5 flights of stairs I even black out from this and have chest pain. This has also happened just while I was sitting still watching TV. Other times my heart will feel like it skipped a beat or fluttered and than I will have a sharp pain in my chest for the next couple minutes following. My doc said I could have a caffine problem and to discontinue eating and drinking the things I have never had a problem with, and I had to wear a heart monitor for 2 weeks!!

Now I am seeing that I am not the only one affected by this. I have had friends and relatives tell me I have changed and I am not the same person I was a couple years ago. My fiance has contemplated leaving me because I am not the same girl I was when we started dating 3 months before taking the Yaz. I have lost the happiness my life used to hold and now this pill is also affecting my health!!!
