fast labor

The labor in my last pregnancy lasted only 45 minutes, luckily my hospital was five minutes away. What should I expect for my pregnancy now. Will my delivery be scheduled? My hospital is about fourty minutes away.

I've been worried about this issue as well. My first child was born in about 4hrs,my second I got to the hospital at 6:30a.m I walked in felt fine some minor discomfort, they checked me at 6:45 I was 3cm dilated my daughter was born at 7:20. I still live about an hour away from the hospital I will deliver in,however I do live 1 minute away from the hospital in my town. It is so hard to find a new Dr. when you move I just kept my old one in the town I used to live in. Now I'm worried I won't make it to the hospital.

My midwife told me about a patient she had that was on her 6th baby, and they were coming faster and faster with each delivery. She tried to talk the patient into a schueduled induction because the previous baby came in 30 minutes. The lady wouldn't do it, and yup, she delivered on her batroom floor 30 minutes after her labor pains started.

Lucky to have it go so fast. :)

The hotel thing could get expensive in my opinion, I'd just keep in good contact with your ob/gyn, maybe think about the induction...whatever you feel comfortable with.

I havent personally been threw it but I did see it on discovery health, She was discussing whether to be induced or not as that way she would be ready for it rather than maybe in the middle of shopping etc. She opted for the induction maybe thats something u could discuss, or home birth? If not maybe find out the average time of an ambulance to your area but definately talk to your midwife/dr so they can sort something out for you that u can relax and not worry whats gonna happen, maybe see if theres a hotel or something if u can afford it that if u get some labour signs u could stay there? When are u due?

Good luck!

Some good advice, when you start contracting, go.
Or check into a hotel nearby close to your due date.

I am in a similar position. I went in for induction and not much was happening. The nurse checked me and I finally hit 3 cm, so she called my doc to beak my water. While waiting for the doc, my water broke on its own at roughly 2pm. As soon as that happened, I dilated to ten in 15 minutes, they spent around 15 minutes trying to reinsert my prolapsed cord, performed an amniotic infusion, and replaced the internal fetal monitor twice. Once they got that done, and then 14 pushes later he was born. From 3 cm to delivery in 41 minutes. We are in the process of looking for a house, and one of the main areas is about an hour to the nearest hospital! If we do buy one of these houses, I am going to be working very closely with my OB, possibly scheduling an earlier induction to avoid deliverying on my kitchen floor with my 2 year old and 4 year old looking on!!

Definitely keep good communicqtion with your doctor. Oftentimes, fast labor with one can set the stage for fast labors in the future.

yeah thats what happened with that woman on discovery health like u said it 'set the stage'. Its kinda good in one way cos u know it wont take long but on the other hand wat if ur not close to the hospital!

Isnt it possible for you to get a house closer than an hour away Andi? Im sure ul have another baby eventually and then it would be quite handy! Also if you have emergency with the kids! Im quite lucky Im quite close about 10 mins if I got a taxi or ambulance, 20 by bus. When I went into labour with my eldest I was very far about half hour by bike, and thats how I went there!! Thats a memory for sure!

All the best to all expecting and TTC!!

I agree with above it could be expensive but thats why u need to decide now whats important to you. A home birth could be a simpler option if ur midwife is close enough if ur really not into induction.

My mother had short labor & deliveries as well, her first was 4 hours. Each one after got faster, I'm her third child & I think she said it was about 1 1/2 hours total to have me. I think you have good reason to be concerned and talk to your doctor about it to put together a plan. Congrats on another pregnancy & best wishes on your delivery!

there is really no way to tell. My 1st was an hour and she was posterior... my second was 12 minutes.. they said I would have had baby in the car if it wasnt for shoulder dystocia and just the sheer size of baby (LOL). My 3rd last 4.5 hours mainly because I wasnt having contractions and my water broke... so it took some time to get going

Good Luck to you!!! and CONGRATS!!

I don't know about this pregnancy but a 45 minute labor???
WOW!
Maybe stay close to your hospital when you get close to the delivery time?  Possibly call an ambulance to get there faster?Good luck!!

I would think that would be something your doctor decides with you.
