vaginal lubes...what kind is best?

hello all!!  I have a quick question about lubrication.  I have had some vaginal issues lately, and it seems as though I need to use lube everytime I have sex, which wasn't the case before.  The last time I had sex, we used Astroglide (which we have been using occationally for years)and I was soooooo sore after sex.  I was fine in the begining, well lubed and comfortable, but then it started to hurt on the outside and when we were done I checked myslef out and the area which after looking it up on the internet I think is the area called the Bartholins gland.  This area was swollen and red, it burned to pee, the next morning it was still a little sore, but the swelling went away.  I guess my question is is this normal?  and maybe a different lube would work better? I am on the Nuva Ring for 2 months now, samd partner for 7 years, recently had issues with yeast infection and recurring BV. thanks so much!!

I have started having vaginal issues recently as well, and I'm also on the Nuva Ring. I'm starting to wonder if that is causing these issues? I read on another website that the nuva ring has been found to cause the infections, but I'm not sure about vaginal dryness. Let me know if anything works for you.

I doubt it's the lube. It's more likely a result of your "vaginal issues" (infections?). Interestingly enough, in the last few days the benefits of various lubes have been hotly debated on a listserv I'm on. Glycerin vs. no glycerin. Chemicals vs. fewer chemicals. Silicone vs. waterbased lubes. I could go on, but I'll spare you. In any case, the general consensus seems to be there is no general consensus, lol. Generally, though, if you're prone to yeast infections you may benefit from switching to a lube without glycerin, like Slippery Stuff.

As for Crisco, it makes an excellent anal lube (if you're not using condoms!) but I wouldn't have thought it'd be fine for vaginal use. Most doctors generally advise against using any oil-based products vaginally.

What ever lube you try, make sure it doesn't contain sugars or alcohol. The sugars can set you up for a yeast infection and alcohols are irritants.  My doc suggested crisco veg. shortening.  It works and hasn't ever irritated me.

I really like KY. I got the masge oil and lubrication all in one, and I really like it. It's not a gel more like an oil and it dosen't dry up!

I use KY.. Its really good. I had used different kinds before and I had the same problem burning and swelling and whatnot. When we started the KY all that went away. Good luck!
