How long did your abscess drain, and antibiotics?

I was diagnosed about 2 months ago, and so far had one abscess drain. It started out a week ago as a very thin, watery discharge with blood, but has since turned to thicker, cloudier stuff.  It has been about a week. I was on a weeks worth of anti biotic (augmentin) which has made me feel so much better...no anxiety, palpitations, night sweats, etc. but I can tell another abscess is developing. How long does the drainage typically last?
I just finished the antibiotic course but still have drainage and swelling in other areas. I plan to contact the dr on Monday again about the possible infection. Just wondering how long you have stayed on a course of antibiotics, as I only seem to feel well when I am on them

It's useless to give antibiotics to prevent 'secondary infection' as there is no infective agents in that area. Only saline water wash is good enough. During my three latest abscesses, I was nt given antibiotics due to health reasons, and it didn't make any difference. Only one difference: I was better off without them, lol.

The antibiotics are generally given at first (when still being diagnosed) and are in my experience, given secondary to an open (or about to rupture) abscess.

I never took antibiotics after my first one as they don't seem to help at all as it is inflammation and not infection.
but ones an abcess open I start putting some thing called prid (walmart firstaid section) on it which heals it  little more fastly .

I had 5 different antibiotics in 6 months. Nothing worked. GM will never be cured with antibiotics. They half killed me. My hemoglobin dropped so much, they stopped the antibiotics. Rather, my homeopathy and diet is helping me a 100times more. It's an inflammatory, not infective disease. Antibiotics will only make you weaker. Try the natural therapies suggested here. There is no evidence based cure yet unfortunately.

My abscesses have been chronic (luckily, I only get one, in one spot, however, it never seems to resolve; when it clears, one forms in the same area, usually from the area that hasn't healed underneath the skin) and if draining, can last for me anywhere from a week to several months - until I get my surgeon involved either for tubes (to keep the area open) and packing (to promote the area to heal without any "pockets" for another abscess to brew). I go onto antibiotics at the first sign of any abscess (for me a lump) and am usually on them for months at a time, until it is fully clear.

HI there, I was also diagnosed about 3 months ago but my abscesses started about 6 months ago and the drainage usually last about a week when I get them.  Mine go away for weeks but then usually return.  I was on 2 months of different antibiotics then started steriod treatment (which has not seemed to help much) Just this week I had another abscess and infection is now back trying a 4 week iv treatment of a fairly new antiobiotic this round, my dr is saying this round of antibiotics will be a minimum of 4 weeks :(
