I do not know if this may be a clue or not, but a few weeks ago I got advise to look up SOD (Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction), on this website and also in yahoo blog pages. My symptoms were similiar but was also having "attacks" before and after my gallbladder was removed. My attacks were different from the pain in my right side that went through to my back. When I have an attack, I get deathly ill feeling all over and feel like I am going to pass out, usually falling to the floor. I break out into a sweat and then follow with chills all over. The attack lasts sometimes up to 20 minutes but it can take me a day or so to feel normal again. Before and after my gallbladder surgery almost 2 years ago (by the way all gb tests were normal and they still took it out to see if it would fix the problem) I have had every test imaginable, but nothing has been found. Then I came on this website and asked about the symptoms. I was told it sounded like SOD. I looked it up and it really did sound exactly like what I might have. I went to my gastro surgeon, he confirmed this after some other small bowel follow through test (went right through me too). So, I am now being scheduled for a specialist surgeon (the only type you want to do the procedure), in Indiana University Hospital to do an ERCP with some other thingy (?). Sorry to rattle on, but you might want to check this out. It is rare but an ERCP can be dangerous and cause pancreatitis easily. I have been misdiagnosed so many times but I think this one is what is really going on. Hope this helps somehow. Many blessings.
Also, I forgot, SOD is Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction. And the reason for the pain and the sick feeling is because the bile duct area into the deuodeum (?) is not properly opening and closing and has to be cut. ONLY get a specialist gastro surgeon to do this if this is what it is.
I had the test that you speak of and they said it was ok. I woke during the procedure so not sure if they finished everything. I know that the reason I went there was to have my small bowel looked at because of the small instrument that they have with this type of procedure. I have been looking at other things. I go to Dr again this week. I am going to ask to be tested for adrena gland disorder. I got so fed up with Dr and them not finding anything and when they did they told me I have crohns. just feels like there is more, I have a large knot under my right ribs and so tired of trying. I am sure you understand.
Thanks for the post,
Melanie
