Should a person have a Neurologist diagnose a back condition and then be referred to a neurosurgeon if surgery is appropriate or should one go to a neurosurgeron first.

I had the same question about a year ago. My son has a TBI so I have been to many Doctors. A Nuerologist study's the brain. He is familiar  with all the areas and the treatments. They do the evaluations.
The Neusurgeon is the one that actually does the surgery's. He also knows the areas's of the brain and some treatments but his specalty is the actual surgury. Hope this helps...

In my opinion a neurologist should be the one doing the evaluation, a neurosurgeon does the surgery but usually isn't the one doing the evaluation.
