Different stories I hear on blood test being accurate.

Hi, I have my normal periods on the first of the month but on May for some crazy reason I had it on the 11th. Had sex on the 21st and condom slipped off and we did not notice it happen. In other words we were unprotected. After a week I have been felling a mild naucious and had a blood test on 6-2, about 12 days later. Doc said at 1st it was to early to do test then did one and was negative then she said it should br forsure. But now 6-5 i'm feeling more naucious. I was thinking I am not pregnant and don't know why my body is playing tricks on me. Any thoughts?

I agree with clysta blood are usually more sensitive than hpt or urine tests usually most places have different values they consider positive I would wait to see if ur period is late then get tested again

As a general standard under 5 is negative, but it varies from practice to practice. Some don't count anything under 20 positive, while some clinics say you're pregnant with a level of 3.

To the OP---I would definitely have another blood draw done, and find out what your levels of hCG are at. Blood tests can usually tell pregnancy from 10-12 days after conception, and since hCG doubles every 48 hours or so in pregnancy, they would rise fast. It's nationally accepted that blood tests are indeed more accurate than urine tests, and rarely give false answers.

Yes but they can detect a level as low as 1 and say if there is any hcg in her system. By now the baby should have already implanted and there should be some amount of hcg. Maybe not high levels but something. My understanding is that its only a negative if under 5.

alaysha, if her last period began on May 11, even a blood test might not be able to detect anything.  Once when I was pregnant, I got a blood test done on day 12 after conception, and it was negative.  Two days later, a positive.  Although a blood test is sensitive, it does not show positives from the moment of conception or anything.  I was just trying to reassure the o.p. that possibly it's not her body 'playing tricks,' and she could get another test to be sure since she tested very early.

Blood tests can detect pregnancy sooner than an htp. If it came back negative then I doubt you are pregnant.

As mentioned above, you're not late yet. If you don't get your period in a few days then try a home pregnancy test or get another blood test done. If you are indeed pregnant your HCG levels would then be increased.

If your period came on May 11, you really aren't even late yet, so that is why your doc said what she did.  Wait until June 11, or 12, or 13, and get another blood test.  Good luck!

Hi again, forgot to mention that on the 6-3 I thought I was having my period because when I went to the bathroom I wipe a clear pink mucous off then by the end of the day it was gone and was only a smear. It happened the next day to and gone again. So actually no period. now late 6-5 about to be 6-6 and no period.
