According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine - The World's Largest Medical Library (warning:it's somewhat grim) -

"Expectations (prognosis)

Some people with scleroderma have symptoms that develop quickly over the first few years and continue to get worse. However, in most patients, the disease slowly gets worse.

People who only have skin symptoms have a better outlook. Widespread (systemic) scleroderma can damage the heart, kidney, lungs, or GI tract, which may cause death.

Lung problems are the most common cause of death in patients with scleroderma.

Complications

The most common cause of death in people with scleroderma is scarring of the lungs, called pulmonary fibrosis.

Other complications of scleroderma include:

    Cancer

    Heart failure

High blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary hypertension)

    Kidney failure

Problems absorbing nutrients from food (malabsorption)"

I have been told I have scleroderma but no blood markers. my sister had scleroderma also and 7 family members with raynaud.
I have raynaud and dealt with ulcerations for most of 30 years. I have low thyroid now also and have had reflux for some time now and on meds. I now have barretts and the next egd showed dysplasia stage 1. Is there a relationship between cancer and scleroderma? I am involved with a small  scleroderma group and we have had about 11 deaths to cancer with scleroderma. My sister also had scleroderma and ended up with lung cancer. The doctor is talking about treatment if i get any closer to cancer.
I am not sure I am posting this in the correct place. I am not so good with the comp.

From WebMD -

If your abdominal pain is severe or if it is accompanied by any of the following symptoms, contact your doctor as soon as possible:

    Fever
Inability to keep food down for several days
Inability to pass stool, especially if you are also vomiting
    Vomiting blood
    Bloody stools
    Difficulty breathing
    Painful or unusually frequent urination
    The pain occurs during pregnancy
The abdomen is tender to the touch
The pain is the result of an injury to the abdomen in the previous days
The pain lasts for several days

These symptoms can be an indication of an internal problem that requires treatment as soon as possible.

Your friend needs to see a Gastroenterologist for an evaluation of the pain and go from there.
