swollen glands right side of neck

about two months ago I went to doctors and he said I had an upper respitory infection and swollen galnds gave me antibiotics but did not work. Went to ENT doctor and he said I had sinuses and nasal drip, he gave me flonase. I have been taking it. But two and a half months later my glands are still swollen (did not get smaller or larger yet). I am just concerned about cancer. I read about Hodgkin's disease. I go back to the ent in a few weeks but am really stressed out about having cancer. I also started the other day with a small rash on stomach it looks more like an irritation not sure if it has anything to do with my glands swollen. I also had ear pain in the beginning but better now with the Flonase. Why would my glands stay swollen? How long does it usually take to go down? Could it be cancer? Thanks.

Make sure your Dr's do a very simple blood test for your thyroid levels.  I found this out after 2 years telling the Dr the same thing very frustrating.

I am a 39 y/o female and both glands in my neck are swollen.  It started at beginning of the year with a node behind my right ear and that went down and the a lump in my breast and that too went down and then my neck.  My voice will completely disappear at times and now I can no longer sleep on the right side.  i have had both a biopsy (which showed increased lymphocytes) and the neck CT with contrast results are not back yet.  Now I am starting to lose weight - which I am sure is a combination of stress and just too painful to eat.  I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and go between hypo and hyperthyroidism, in addition to having celiac sprue disease.  The node on the right side is bigger than the left, measuring 1.6 cm.

21 year old male, never had any problems until now....my glands are swollen only on the right side of my neck....throughout the day, they become enlarged, but then they will go back to normal....it keeps flip flopping back and forth..sometimes when they are enlarged i can see my neck pulsing....i have not been sick and the swollen glands do not give me any pain..i have no other symptoms....i got checked for strep throat but that came back negative...i think i have a slight anxiety disorder, so idk if im only adding to the problem by thinking about only the negatives...

any ideas?

I am totally freaking out. Glands swollen on the side of my neck too, yada yada yada! Except it is causing me downright debilitating pain! I mean I'll feel it coming on and within an hour i cant even think straight! It starts under the right side of my jaw, and progressively creeps up to my ear, and then both of my temple will start throbbing. If i finally fall asleep, i would think it would have gone away. Nope! And pills wont even touch the pain. And i mean "Any" pills. I took Keflex antibiotics religiously for a week. No good! And the pain would come and go in cycles it seems. I was thinking that maybe it was a tooth infection because it seems like it originates in my jaw below my back molar. I don't know. Anyone else have that sort of pain to where you think something must be desperately wrong?

about two days ago i noticed that the glands on the right side of my neck were swollen (two lumps) as well however, i don’t think that a cancerous tumor could have grown that fast (maybe, i didn’t notice it before but it very well could have been there). today i noticed that there are three lumps one of which developed within the span of about five hours, i went to the doctor’s office the day i noticed the lumps and she ordered a blood test which came back negative. has anyone heard of anything from their doctors?

I too have had the swelling of what I think are the glands, however mine gives me a great deal of pain, constant, and sometimes shooting, up into my ear, and frezzing feeling too. They have xrayed, MRI'd, and nothing. Now I find out about the lymph glands and I too am worried since my father died from lymphoma and my regular doctor says its nothing, I guess its time to go to a ENT doc !

Hey plantus, i think im in the same boat as you, my glands just decided that they were gonna swell up one day and just not go back down..the doctors really think that they're is nothing to worry about. i've had this swollen gland for about 2 years now, maybe just under that..But going thru absolutely no symptoms, no neck pain, no throat pain, no sleep disorders, or unintentional weight loss, loss of facial functions..or anything of the sort that would make it something deadly to have..so alls im gonna do is just let it be, until it decides it wants to get bigger or just go away completely...

I finally had a ct scan done and I was told that I have chronic sinuse problems and that is more than likely what is causing gland to swell. Put me back on antibiotics and nasal spray. Other syptoms ear pain and thraot slightly sore.

I have had swollen glands in my neck for the past 6 months (at least).  At first, I thought that my impacted wisdom teeth that were probably getting infected were the cause.  I had them out in October and it is now the middle of March and my glands are still swollen.  I went to my physician who ordered a cbc, thyroid, and mono tests and everything came back fine.  She never could give me an explaination for these symptoms.  She said that it could be my kids bringing home germs from school and that's how it was affecting me.  I didn't buy it.  My biggest fear is also cancer.  Lung cancer, espcially as I've read on here swollen glands are one such symptom.  I am 25 years old and just quit smoking after 8 years.  I have two young children and dying and leaving them motherless is my biggest fear.

Hi there,

I also had a lot of the glands in the right side of my neck swell after a minor cold, and spent months afterwards with a chronic sore throat, fatigue, depression and headaches.  I even lost a load of hair.  I got utterly convinced it was cancer too, so I had all the usual blood tests (including glandular fever and thyroid - all clear) then I went to a specialist who almost imediately told me I had nothing to worry about, and that the lumps did not feel 'ominous', especially as they hadn't grown at all.  Apparently some lymph nodes will just swell and then not go down again, particularly following a viral infection.

If this is worrying you, then you might want to check things out with your doctor, especially if the lumps get any bigger.  But it's probably just 'one of those things'.  Frustrating to accept but eventually better than worrying endlessly (I sympathise with that feeling!)

I still don't feel 100% back to normal, even now, but I am a lot better than I was, so I guess I'll probably feel fine again eventually!

Good luck!
