MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Dear Marianne,
The condition is called a ventricular septal defect and a large defect can result in dilation of the right heart and high lung pressures.   This can be very difficult to treat and closure of the hole at this point does not always fix the problem.  We do treat people from all over the country with this type of condition and would be happy to evaluate her here.  I would suggest Dr Douglas Moodie who has a great deal of experience dealing with adults with congenital heart disease.  You doctor should send via express mail all of her records and test results along with a cover letter explaining the situation to Dr. Douglas Moodie, Desk M41, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH 44121.  His phone number is (216) 444-6717.  He may be able to give an opinion as to whether or not she should travel to Cleveland for a more complete evaluation.  Please also feel free to contact the international office at (216) 444-6404 for help with travel and lodging should you decide to come.
