I am 42 years old and was diagnosed with atypical lobular hyperplasia after a lumpectomy in 1999. This was confirmed by Dr.David Page in Kentucky. I have had 2 other lumpectomies since then and those were negative for ALH. My mother was diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Carcinoma in 5/04,at the age of 63. This area has been on her mamograms since 1998. I have fibrocystic disease and my mamograms are unreadable due to the dense tissue. I have breast MRI's to evaluate my breasts now every 8 months because there is an area that is being watched. I have had doctors tell me to take tamoxifin as a precautionary measure, however, I have also had clinicians tell me not to because there is no study with tomoxifin and premenapausal women. I am now 5 years out since I was diagnosed with ALH--what is your opinion. What should I do for high risk management? Is tomoxifin out of the question or should it be considered?
Dear Angel eyes 97, Atypical cells just means that the cells seen under the microscope from this tissue sample were not normal. More details about the findings will be needed to say what this is.
