My pot got cut off! Anyhow, my TSH was >150. That is what I was trying to say :)

It has taken over a year to get normal and I am still not there. My TSI was <1.0 and anything above 1.3 or 130% I believe is worrisome. TSI for Grave, TPO and biopsy for Hashimotos diagnosis. I have not had a biopsy though. My doc just diagnosed as Hashis.

I have Hashimotos and had hashitoxicosis for awhile. You should request a full antibody work up. TPO ab, TSI, Trab. The TSI is the definitive for graves. I had high TPO = 3500 and 150. This is a terrible disease but I do believe that eating well, exercising, and keeping stress at bay keeps your antibodies down. I do believe that the antibodies are what cause all of the icky symptoms. Even when my TSH was down 1.27 last month, I felt the same. I hope that one day I will not have any symptoms.

Good luck

Were both your antibodies high tpo and I am not sure what the other is but I know they read off high on both, I wonder if I have both sometimes to and that could be why I am so out of wack. Also I read somewhere else somebody with  HASHITOXICOSIS had swollen toung and my tounge has been swollen for a long time now docs say oh it looks normal but I know what my tounge use to look like and it is white to.

Hi,
I was diagnosed with HASHITOXICOSIS,,,,hashimotos and graves at the same time and antibodies of both diseases ....like Graveslady said symptoms seem to overlap, I would cycle very quickly in between the two.  Research hashitoxicosis, my treatment was RAI 18.5 MC1 four months ago, no regrets, doing 85% better now. My TSH is over 20 right now, but most of the Graves symptoms are gone.

All the above are correct to specific thyroid conditions.

Both Hashimoto's and Graves' disease antibodies, which puts the thyroid into a push-pull situation, where it cycles up and down through hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

Hashi dominate with Graves' secondary or Graves' dominate with Hashi secondary, are people with equal amounts of both stimulating and blocking TSH receptor antibodies.

A person may present  features of one of these disorders at one time and features of the other at another time. However, they both can't present features of both at the same time. Therefore, treatment is at the moment of the prevailing disorder.

Some even believe that hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, including Graves' disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis, as different phases of the same disease. Graves’ disease, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, idiopathic thyroid failure and Hashitoxicosis are all closely associated and sometimes overlapping syndromes that cause symptoms of thyroid disease.

Hi, I think I can help--my niece has been diagnosed with Hypothyroiditis--she has hyper and hypo-thyroid issuse--she has been very sick with numerous symptoms over the last year, Get to a specialist-insist on testing the normal thyroid test PLUS the T3 and T4 levels--you need all 3 to get a complete read on what is going on. After talking with my sister and comparing symptoms that she and I have fought with over the years, what her daughter is fighting now--and looking at family history--we both have concluded we also have it--and are getting tested.  My niece had been back and forth to doctor after doctor, er after er and no one could nail it down. When they finally tested her T3 and T4 levels--they were at critical levels and  she could have gone into a comma at any time. She is now on hormonal therapy replacement for life (she is 24). This comes in cycles--going back and forth between hypo and hyper---don't wait until it gets really bad....I am not a doctor, but we have been doing a lot of reading and research on the subject. Read up on it so you can be well informed and be able to ask the questions that you need to --never be afraid to question the doctor on the treatment or to ask questions period--if he/she gets upset--find another doctor. The more informed you are the better a decision about your health you can make. Good luck adn I hope that you feel better soon.

You can have Hashimoto's and be in a Hyper phase, which is technically the same thing as Grave's disease.

The difference between Hashimoto's and Grave's is that with Hashimoto's you can fluxuate between Hypo and Hyper, while Grave's disease is strictly Hyperthyroidism. There are other differences as well, but Hashimoto's in a hyper phase mimics Grave's except for the antibodies.

My GP explained it to me one time by saying it was like having Hashimoto's with Grave's overlayed on top of it. Crude analogy, but acurate, I think.

You can't be both Hypo and Hyper at the same time, but you can swing back and forth.

Maybe you have the Hahsis and thyroid eye disease with Hashis ( I've heard it can happen?)?
I don't know.

If Graves Lady answers the question you will get the best info.
