Herbal treatment, supplements, cure, oh my...

This thread is feedback for this thread:

I appreciate that jack1642 shared his personal journey and indicated that “THE ABOVE HERBAL MEDICATION IS NOT AN APPROVED FDA DRUGS.   THEY ARE FOOD SUPPLEMENTS AND ARE NOT INTENED FOR A CURE!”

I am not anti-herbal treatment or against taking of supplements.  Since I’m on antiviral treatment, I never taken any herbal treatment or supplements.  I have no personal experience on this subject.  For some (especially as shared on the C forum) it appeared to help them improve the condition of the liver.

I do want to further caution those individuals newly diagnosed with chronic HepB that for all intended purposes, there is no cure for chronic HepB.  Newly diagnosed are often afraid, desperate, and would buy into any “proposed cure”.  Take time to learn the disease and do a good amount of research before spending money looking for that cure.

Sometimes people cite that a certain formula is working because the HepB surface antigen or HBV DNA numbers went down.  These numbers are supposed to fluctuate.  Sometimes they go up and sometimes down.  For example, if you are in the “inactive phase” where viral replication is held in check, you will have low HBV DNA.  And if your immuno-system gave it a good response, it may bring in down to very low numbers say less than 100 copies.  But ALT goes up slightly.  But then it goes back to where it was before.  So you get a different story depending on when you do your labs.

And just this past month a friend told me she was told that was cured of HepB by her doctor and no treatment is needed.  She “cured” herself by drinking fresh boil ginseng roots.  I didn’t see her labs but I am pretty sure she misunderstood her doctor.  Her doctor probably told her she’s in the inactive phase, where treatment is not needed.  Sometimes hope makes you hear what you want to hear.
