Calf twitching

by crannberry, Jun 17, 2008 06:32PM
I have been having these calf twitches and pins and needles in my toes, not sure what to think of this.
It comes and goes, but when I try to sleep it seems to get worse. I did tell my doctor but she didn't seem to think much of it.
I am a 50 year old female in good physical health.
I do have hypothyroidism.
If anyone has any input I would appreciate it.

Hi there.

These symptoms may be a manifestation of your hypothyroidism and make sure that your thyroxine intake is adequate.  Adequacy of treatment can be seen on measurement of the TSH levels.  Other causes would include stress, or micronutrient deficiency (especially vitamin B).  Rare causes would include beginning ALS or demyelinating conditions such as MS.  I suggest you discuss these options with your doctors.  For now, have adequate rest and avoid stress as much as possible.

Regards and God bless.

I had hypothyroidism also having my thyroid removed, you may be suffering from hypocalcemia due to your parathyroid glands not working properly. Go to the hypoparathyroid web sight and check out the symptoms. Cramps and tingling ( like pins and needles) are signs of low calcium. This goes hand in hand with thyroid problems.

Good luck

Thank you both for your information.
Hopefully it only has to do with my thyroid as I do take a daily calcium dose.
