Hi! Congratulations! Do you know if its a boy or girl yet?
A subchorionic hematoma usually results from a separation of the sac from the wall of the uterus. I always describe it to my patients as a bruise. And they resolve just like a bruise--whatever doesn't drain out gets reabsorbed by the body.
We don't know why people get subchorionic hematomas, but aspirin or blood thinners are unlikely to help, and might make you bleed more.
I don't believe that the subchorionic hematoma puts you at higher risk for abruptio--as they usually do one of two things--heal completely, or get worse and cause a miscarriage--that would have happened by now if it were going to.
Placenta previa can be diagnosed by 24 weeks, so if you have another ultrasound, I'm sure they will let you know--or if not ask.
Symptoms of abruptio or previa would be bleeding, and I'm sure you are already aware that you need to report any bleeding to your doctor immediately.
Bleeding in early pregnancy always makes for a nerve-wracking pregnancy! I hope and suspect that you are done with the bleeding problems.
Good luck!
