My daughter whom is 17months has a small bump (size of an on her lower lip. It seems to be lighter in color then her lips and turns white when I stretch her lips or press the area from the inside of her lip. The area seems harder then in comparsion to her lips. She has had it for a couple of months now. Her peditrician took a glance (at best) and said she bite her lip, it will go away. I am concern now because it seems to be affecting her worse. When she smiles or talks the part of the lip with the "bump" seems to be paralayzed. I really do not know if its just swollen and thats what is causing her smile to resemble someone who's had a stroke. PLEASE help!
Hello,
Without examination,it is difficult to confirm a diagnosis, but from your description it looks like a mucocele. It is a rubbery, bubblelike painles swelling. It is usually inside the lower lip, under the tongue or the inside of mouth and caused mainly by biting the lips or trauma during eating of food.
Usually it goes away on its own.But if it does not, then corticosteroid injections and surgical removal by scalpel or laser are done by a dermatologist. It then has to be differentiated from other mucocutaneous lesions also.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or in case you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
