Blood drawn for Second Trimester Screening....

1st
Hi, I am writing this, because I am very concerned.  I had some blood drawn today for my second trimester screening, and the lady who drew my blood did not wear gloves.  She missed my vein twice, and there was quite a bit of blood.  Then she stopped up the bleeding with a cloth (ungloved!)  Is this common practice?  I didn't notice she wasn't wearing gloves until she was on the third, and final, blood draw,  because I can't stand to look when my blood is drawn.  Otherwise, I would have said something.  Anyhow, I have just been so worried ever since that I could catch something from her.  Any input would be wonderful!

If you had the blood drawn at a reputable institution, and sterile blood drawing equipment was used, there is virtually no chance that you would get an infectious disease of any kind just because the blood drawing staff did not wear gloves.  The danger is more to them in terms of their exposure to another person's blood.  You would not be exposed to their blood.

Not wearing gloves during blood drawing is poor technique, and you should inform the institution where this occurred that the blood drawing staff is not performing their job correctly.

Thanks so much for your response!  Yes, the place is very reputable, it was for my detailed ultrasound it's a special place I had to go to have the Nuchal Translusceny (don't know if I spelled that right) peformed.  The technician there is who measured the fluid by the baby's neck in the u/s.  The same technician is who drew my blood.  I will inform the head of the institution of what occurred.  Thanks again!  I appreciate you taking the time to respond!
