13 Foods to Avoid During Pregnancy

Smoked Seafood

Smoked Seafood

As one of the biggest culprits of the listeriosis mentioned in the last slide, smoked seafood from the refrigerated section of your grocery store or deli should also be avoided during pregnancy. Skip seafood labeled “lox,” “nova-style,” “jerky” or “kippered.” Exceptions? Smoked fish that is cooked into a dish, like a casserole, or that is canned or “shelf-stable,” such as vacuum-packed smoked salmon found in the aisle with other canned fish. These are safer choices while you’re pregnant.
