ADD

I have 16 year old twin boys who have just now recently been diagnosed with ADD by a Neurologist. He has prescribed Concerta which I can understand but he also prescribed Lamictal and from the information I can find this is for Bipolar or Epilepsy. Can anyone out there comment?

I looked it up on good ole Wikipedia and found that it does also have other uses, but you have to read very carefully.  For example it is thought to have a mild anti-depressant effect and it also increases sleep stability (small studies).
However, this is a question that you want to ask your doctor.  You need to know what condition he prescribed it for.  Until you know that, you really can't do any effective research.  And I would make my question very specific!  He needs to tell you why he prescribed it. What he expects it to do.  What its side effects are.  What you should look for if they actually go on it.
By the way, there are two sites aimed at the adult ADD sufferer that you and your boys might want to check out. They are totallyadd.com and http://jeffsaddmind.com/for-first-time-visitors.
Both sites are done by people with ADD.  totallyadd was actually a PBS special and consequently is a series of short videos.  Quite entertaining and useful.   Jeffs add mind really reflects him.  Has much more adult interaction.  Both are worth checking out.
       Hope this helps.

Sandman2 is totally, right on!  I take Lamictal for depression and a mood stablizer.  They do use meds to help the kids get to sleep--they did for my son, but they gave him Seraquel whick made him groggy at school until about 10:30 a.m. every day!  I wouldn't recommend Seraquel if they suggest that.  I have been on Lamictal for years and it really helps me.

Thanks so much for your feedback. I think it is being used as a 'mood stabiliser'. Thanks for the two sites you've recommended too. Really helped. :)
