Ya, one reason I sent the article was because it talked about adhd meds and tics.   Kind of thought the bit about caffeine use was interesting.  Has you son started any of those "energy" drinks?   Anyway, if you do find anything that helps - get us posted.   Best wishes!

I hear you about him not wanting to take the meds.  That is a big problem.  It is always possible that if he tries something like Ritalin, it will make him feel better and he will want to continue?
I feel for you, it is so maddening to have to sit on the sidelines and watch.  At least if some of this is ADHD related, then learning more about ADHD will help you understand him better.  Reason I mention ADHD is that " Tics and Tourette’s usually occur along with some other disorder. The most common co-occurring conditions are: ADHD (50% to 90%) ".  So its a strong possibility.  And lying and stealing are only minor symptoms of ADHD.  Just found this article.  I think you will find it interesting!

well' no and yes which is very confusing as a child never notice anything like this' never stole anything or lie about anything ' that remeber ' didnt seem to a have problem at school " the only problem started at nine years ago when his torurettes began he would just start spiting on everything the tables's' the floors ' the mirrors just sptiing all the time ' then twitching begin & the' 'noises which was hard for him he had very little control but time with changes in his meds got better ' and sometime's would go backwards. he allways a felt Insecurity ' that something wrong with him and then he will be anxious around others because felt he counldnt control his tics and of course why did he have this prolem when other kids were fine ' so you can see he as gone throught lot' then got better but it was because I there to make sure he had meds. it was only when he was in his teens  and got married that more problems began ' the doctor had give him paxcil which I believe created  different behavior ' and was give to help with anxiousness' but started a new set of behavior which was anger' yelling ' when he would miss any dose it was not good ' and all the other things mentions about him want a familly he kinda stop takeing his meds ' for about six months ? then the paranoia started which only for a very time few weeks after get back meds was ok again but it resulted in his wife leaving because she couldnt deal with this . so that very hard on him. then remarried to wife as now ' and since he as been remarried this when i notice the lieing and stealing so thats i started to look for answer because I counldnt understand why he would do this when I only knew  he had torrettes ' I see for what I have read ADHD as this these anger' compulsive behavior' and the liying and stealing these symptoms he as' but it is only now that we see it this behavior not when was younger? which doesnt" make since'he was never diagnosed with ADHD untill possibly know the psy' believes he may have it but still not sure and as not give any others meds for ADHD he been on abily for his torrettes for some years so I really dont have the answer?  I will ask about ritail? the problem is he wont take medications thats why we have him given the  injection because its such a problem even now with the injection he is to also take5 mgs per day pill form for a while he took it then he went off for a few days and his behavior got bad again that when he sole again and began being argumentative" and Irritated over nothing?  so we see his next injection is on the 30th of may ? thanks again for the advice& link and for listening it helps to vent

Well, obviously if the stealing is due to ADHD (which is certainly possible), then meds for ADHD would help.  But sounds like that may not be possible?
There is a lot of stuff on people with ADHD stealing in this link:
          http://www.additudemag.com/search/google.html?match_words=stealing&x=0&y=0
But most of it deals with kids doing it.
I think you are close to finding the right dose of abilify for him.  From there it is a matter of communication and probably some tough love.  He needs to tell you if he needs funds.  If he keeps stealing, then he doesn't get to come in the house for a month, etc.
He has never apparently tried a stim med from what you have said.  Wonder how a low dose of ritalin would work?  Does he have the typical ADHD  symptoms?

thanks for your reply' I am not sure what do will keep try to find the right doseage, but when he starts this stealing its like he does not take repsondbly for what as done or make it right , a few months ago like feb, he sole from my step son and his wife which live in my home , and that as been a strain in our family no one can understand that this a illness they think just did it because want to ' " I even at time have hard time understanding why he cant just stop it, and as said I thought when we see the psy, that we were over this until he did it again and as not even said a word about it like was someone that did it or its ok ' I am truly loss?  you never heard of something like this in the community, I have read many storys of stealing but no answer as to how to deal with it and can be cured with meds? if you know of any info please let me know thanks again

I am assuming that he has both torretts and ADHD.  Which is not all that unusual.  If he does have ADHD, he is prone to impulsive behavior.  Doesn't mean that its ok, it is what it is.  Also, doesn't mean he can't return the money or work out a payment schedule or simply ask ( if he thinks twice).
Anyway, it does sound like his last injection might have put him over the top. Talk with his doc.   He might want to stop the 5mg pill until its time to give the next shot and then lower the dose and restart the pill.  As I said, its all trial and error to find the right dose.

thank you for your reply ' yes early on when he was much younger he was on tenex ' for lots years he as been on many meds rispertorl ' catapres patches clonidine' paxil' which really mess him up because he as had a  problem taking his meds ' most of his life when he was younger i would allways make sure he took them ' but as he grew up ' in his teens it was very hard to keep him on track' so when he would miss a dose' or take them very late in the day he would be very anger' anything would tic him off ' and in time his behavior was out of control with  this med'  now is on abilfiy only'  but the promlem we are having is not his tics ' five years ago he stop meds for months without my  knowledge ' because he wanted to have child and had problems due to the all med was on'  he felt un normal' and was ok for while then experience some paranoia believing that people were trying to watch or hurt his family ' and that was such hard time for all us because never experice this before' and  frightening ' we quckly got him back his meds and thank god he as no other episodes since , then the lying started and two years old he started stealing from us he a stolen jewely money grand kids ipads and sold them when needed money ' so as you see his illness as taken many forms but this one unbearable! that is why I took him see psychiatrist and put him the injection plus 5mg of pill form until find right dose' and was really thinking he was get more aware of his action and could control the urge to not steal again or lie to me and a few days he came my home very early in moring he does that when need money or is stress out or having problems with wife' but that day he did complain that didnt have money to pay his car pay ' he stay a while i gave him a little money and he left' later in the I notice a box of change missing from room change that me and my husband were safeing for our grandkids it was a lotof money like 700.00 dollars or more everynite we add our change  for a year i was so sad i counldnt believe he did this again!! so as you can see dont know how help him'  and is making us crazy I am  angry at him then sad for him ' then I cry for him I just dont what is happening to him what kind life can he have like this ' ???  sorry for so much info I guess I need to vent and need help if anyone as gone throught this or if there a doctor out there that help please let know me thanks for listening .

As I am sure that you know by now, doctors usually start out with a low dose and slowly amp up the meds until they work or side effects start to happen.  It sounds like your son went over the top with the increased dosage.  He should let his psyc know about this so that next months injection is back at the old dose.  Unfortunately, he may feel tired, etc until this dose wears off.  But, if he knows the reason why he is feeling that way, It helps.
Has he ever tried any of the non stim meds like strattera or tenex?
