My 7 year old

My 7 yr old has ADHD, PTSD, and adjustment disorder there may be another dianois but im waiting on paperwork from the hospital to know that. He is only meds. My question is a normal with a child with this many dianois to not follow direction or listen as much as he does? I know that this happens with all children but he gets in angery outburst with this to where i had to put him in hospital for his and everyone else safty.

Thanks, that is a very useful reply.  The poster does face a double whammy with her child and she definitely does need to deal with both the situations.  I've got a feeling that the PTSD is certainly the main concern right now.  But, she hopefully will also recognize how the ADHD complicates the whole situation.

I can't say I have PTSD, I have ADD. Learning emotional control was HARD on EVERYONE. I still have an extreeme temper, but don't lash out as I would thanks to verry patient parenting. I have learned the difficulty of PTSD from my wife and then daughter. Both have touch points of extreme sensitivity.  I am currently supporting my wife in dealing with her stress with the past being shoved into current life. The best help I have found is emphasizing positive time together, while keeping things as routine and stable as possible. I would focus more on the PTSD and helping your child move forward with life. My daughter still has times dealing with her memories of 11years ago that are very harsh.  I have never known PTSD to vanish, but it can get easier to face. Some treatments for adults combined specific BP meds and triggering stress responses. Don't lose hope it can always improve. My best help with ADD was exercise and meditation. Try yoga for kids. Good luck

Oh, I feel for you.  Having a little one who has PTSD has gotta be a tough thing to go through.  And, its gotta be even harder on him.  I don't know what event caused the PTSD, but if I understand correctly, you also had to hospitalize him because he got so violent.  Wow, that has to have been hard for you.  And, of course, even harder for him as he was then away from his loved ones.
What meds is he on now?  Are they for his PTSD and ADHD or just one or the other.  It makes a difference in how to work with him.
But the short answer - is yes, a child with ADHD (at this age) will not follow directions or listen much.
I highly suggest you buy the book (its only about $10) through Amazon called  "The ADD/ ADHD Answer book," by Susan Ashley.   It will give you lots of good ways to help him at home and at school with his ADHD.  I also can recommend several good online sites to give you more info if you want.   I do think that you need this information because the question you asked is a very typical symptom for kids with ADHD.  Thus, I am assuming that the doctors have not been very good at getting info to you.
