how does a lack of magnesium affect the body?, im trying a natural approach for adhd/nld (similiar to asperger's) he is on fish friends which has epa and dha. mutlivitamins and still prozac which is cut down from 10mg to 5mg to wean him off, he was on concerta 36mg for adhd, clonidine .1mg to help with sleep  and prozac10mg to combat severe side effects, then after starting prozac. he was chewing on the inside of his lower lip so bad, 2 weeks later and he now has two scars..not to mention he thought he could hurt someone else due to anxiety caused by concerta, to now im saying enough is enough, his pediatrician says no more stimulants until he sees his psycologist and psychiatrist again to see what is happening. concerta and clonidine are now out of his system...but his ability to concentrate or sit still are back in a big way,school right now is very hard for him but with one to one support he is a bit better..he is also in therapy for the nld aspect to learn how to cope with emotions and learn non verbal communication...and learning brain gym techniques...am doing behaviour modification, but he seems to lack self control of any kind

what else can i do????????

He will get there in the end.  It is a long road but self control can be learnt, step by step.
My son had these problems and did not understand social situations at all.  He got it all eventually.  You are doing very ggod things with your boy.

Read the Fish oil thread it has some interesting information that other parents have found the food supplements beneficial .

One more thing. Be very careful with some of these homeopathy medicines. Some of theses roots and herbs can cause more damage than FDA approved medications. Just because something is "natural" does not mean that it's good.

Years ago my husband came to me asking me to try a homeopathy root for ADHD that someone told him about. Good thing I did my research. It was used by native hawaiians to get high. It was compared to cocaine  and not only was it addictive but it also causes kidney damage. Do your research before trying anything.

Hi darlene , there has been findings that some children with ADHD have a magnesium deficiency. Your might get a lot of info as to how lack of magnesium affects the behavior in children if you google it. Before giving your child magnesium,I remember reading that a DR needs to check for the deficiency.I'm not exactly sure something about  the effects of too much magnesium in the body? I hope someone here could answer your question.
