Stopped Working

I was prescribed Bupropion 100mg twice a day.  The first couple weeks my wife and I both noticed a big improvement with my symptom of ADD.  Than all of a sudden it stopped working.  I told my doctor, he changed it to Bupropion 300mg XL.  Its been a week and a half since its been changed and no improvement.  What happened to make it quit working?  Will it start if I give it some more time?

My main info on it is here - http://www.crazymeds.us/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Meds/Wellbutrin
It does take some time to build up, and another site mentions it could take one to three weeks - so I would give it some more time.
I guess the big question is why are you taking it.  It is not the normal med for ADD.   That would be Ritalin or Concerta.  Do you have a problem with stim meds.  Or since Bupropion is also good for depression, is the doc trying to treat two conditions with one med.

That is a strange choice for an ADD medication.  Most primary care doctors are not comfortable prescribing stimulant meds like Adderall, Ritilan, or Vyvanse and will try to skirt around giving you that diagnosis.  I see a psychiatrist for my medication.  I love my family doctor but he will not prescribe anyone ADD meds and requires his patients to visit to the psychiatrist for that diagnosis.  I respect his decision and understand why he just isn't willing to take the risk of stepping beyond his realm of understanding.  His specialty, outside of general practice, is mostly gastrointestinal.  Too many doctors try to multitask and it can be detrimental to the patient.  You wouldn't call your plumber to install a ceiling fan.  Right?

Hi there...sorry to butt in but for Wellbutrin it usually takes 4 to 6 weeks before you really see benefits.  But as Sandman said, it usually isn't prescribed for ADD but rather OCD and anxiety.  I take it for OCD.  Is your doctor trying to treat your racing thoughts thinking that perhaps you have OCD as well as ADD?

If it doesn't work then ask him to try a  stim med.  They are the recognized way to deal with ADD.   If he doesn't agree - find a new doctor.  Its your life.  It doesn't matter what his comfort level is - its your life.  Not his.
And if you need any more info about ADD or dealing with it, etc.  please post.  Best wishes.

My doctor isn't comfortable prescribing stimulant medication.  Its for ADD.  Had it since I was a kid.  After 16 years of denying I had it as a adult I finally decided to seek treatment after the birth of my kids.  The thing is the original prescription took most of the forgetfulness, and racing thoughts away, at first.  As my wife said, I was on the ball for a couple weeks.

I'm hoping your right and this new prescription will start working in time.  It is extended release so maybe it takes longer to build up in my system than the instant release did.

Also, I'm not depressed at all.  Just stressed from dealing with this problem.
