My opinion is you should try and get him evaluated. I have an 8 yr old as well wjo has issues with school and she hardly ever finishes things, Some similarities. I thought the way she acts is normal for a 8 yr old which may be true but as I stated you should try and get him evaluated you dont want to know later that there was something that could have been detected early on and let it be too late. Im going through that now with my 8 yr old (evaluation process) at the end of the day if they tell me there is nothing wrong thats fine too. Rather be safe than sorry. Also try changing his diet..

Come to think of it, the child who always does his homework without being told, who is invariably polite and obedient and would rather eat squash than lemon meringue pie, should be taken to a doctor immediately. Thee is something wrong with that kid.

Good, plain common sense, much of this is lacking in today's over-medicated society. Have lots of kids. You will be good at it.

Hi.  Well, I actually have an 8 year old as well and an almost 7 year old.  My son has not been diagnosed with add/adhd but sensory and many of his challenges are directly related to his sensory.  He's really and honestly not like every 8 year old or every person.  Some kids do have issues that relate to their nervous system and we've been really fortunate to help my son.  He doesn't take medication and with sensory, medication doesn't work------- but understanding the root cause of his lack of sitting still (which can affect many things----------  and my son himself wants to be able to focus) and many other things has helped him overcome many difficulties.

I don't know if the poster's child has add/adhd but do know that a one size fits all approach to kids doesn't really work.  They are all different and as a parent, my job is to help my child.  good luck with yours and peace!! :>)

Your child is eight, every eight year old is like that. No, let me rephrase that... everyone is like that, regardless of age, to some degree. Putting him on medication will put him in a zombie like state, which will severely impact his ability to just be a kid! There is no magic pill to make your child be nice, love homework always make it to the bathroom. Heck, my husband had an accident not too long ago (hahaha).

Just let him learn from his mistakes like every child should. Guide him along the path but let him be a kid!

He seems OK. Annoying in some ways, but no indication of an ailment. He will grow up and become motivated eventually. Be patient. And, please, please, do not drug this little boy. The consequences can be awful.

By the way, my son was like that, which drove my husband mad with worry. (He can worry about almost anything.) Sometime around puberty my son shot to the top of his class. Not only that, he had offers from two top tier universities.

One of my grandsons is the same sort of pain in the neck. But now we have experience and merely wait for his hormones to take over.

Hi there,  I answered your post on the other forum.  I'm not sure if your child has add/adhd--------  has he gone through an evaluation or been officially diagnosed?  That is the best place to start.  There are diagnostic criteria that must be met for diagnosis.  Have you seen any improvement with the medication?

Please see my other comments for more ideas.  good luck
