New Med Question Ritilain first time use

My dr.  gave me ritlain (sp?)  for adult add.  This is the first time I ever used it.  He gave me a month supply to try out which is 5mg once a day in the morning.  I have been taking it for the past 5 days and he wants me to call him back in 2 days and let him know how I am doing on the medication.

He said since this is the first time taking it that he would start me at a low dose.   Here is the problem it starts working a little after 30 minutes and only last up to 3 hours.  I was just wondering what am I supposed to do the rest of the 5 hours at work when it where's off.  I just got this new job and I am scared to lose it since I haven't worked in 7 years.

I am happy that he is helping me, but I am confused how to make this work.  I tried to drink coffee when it wheres off but it makes me jittery.  And the ritlain makes me calm and focused.  I am not sure what to tell him since I am very greatful I finally got a medication that works for my add.  But, I just started it and don't want to be placed on some other med since this is the only one that worked for me so far.

Any suggestions, I am new to this add and before I just barely got buy in school and work got poor grades and got fired a lot.

Congratulations on the new job!  In this economy, you are fortunate!
Don't panic!   Both the meds and your doc are doing exactly what they are supposed to do.  You are on the lowest possible dose and it works for only 3 to 4 hours.  Now that your doc knows that it is working, he will simply have you take another pill after 3 hours or put you on an extended version.
Just let him know what is going on.
By the way,   for any medication I take - I always google it to find out side effects, duration etc.   If you had done that you probably would not have worried quite so much.
Any other questions about adult ADD?  I would also love to know (after so many years) - what steps you took to finally get diagnosed.  Best wishes.
