As far as I know, your physician broke a regulation. If you are in the United States, he or she is not allowed to talk about your medical issues or anything else with anyone unless you have them named in your documents. It is Hippa and in order to be seen by a physician in the US, you must sign it and they must adhere to it. I am not sure what is going on here----------- but your physician should not have spoken to your sister.
Were you taking the medication in the prescribed way? You weren't snorting it, were you? Were you taking it with other medications? Were you taking it at higher doses? I am not anti med and feel if you have adhd that those medications can help. However, there must be a correct diagnosis and the medication must be used in the prescribed and proper way.
Most physicians are pretty good at spotting drug seekers and there are always clues. A new physician will certainly want to see your medical file. Simply by having a lot of knowledge and asking for a specific medication can give someone away. So, I think you'll have to work with your current physician and if he feels you have a true medical need, he will prescribe what he thinks will help. Good luck and I'd call the drs. office about the breech of confidentiality. That is a problem.
The first thing I question is why your sister got in touch with your psychiatrist. It it was not malice, and you don't suggest it was, that she did it out of concern for your health. Have you had a drug problem in the past? If so, did your psychiatrist know about it? Also, what medication did he put you on? If it was Adderall, or one of its cousins, that is speed with a fancy name. And it is very addictive.
To answer your question - I would go back and talk to the psyc. You may not have gotten the full story and you need to find out what is going on, and he needs to hear your side. By the way, as far as I know - ADHD meds don't dilate the eyes, so if that was the info she was going on, then that could be cleared up. Now things like marijuana can do that, and if thats happening - its called self-medicating and is common with people who have ADHD and haven't learned how to deal/cope with it. And this is something that a good psychiatrist can help you with (if that's what is going on). At any rate, I would definitely talk with your old psyc. Any new psyc would (I think) want a case history, and you would want that to be accurate. Good luck
I understand where your sister is coming from. The Doctor should have talk to you before he stopped you from taken it.
Have you read up on the drugs the Doctor gave you.A lot of these drugs can cause very bad side effects. And before a Anyone give you these drugs they should be testing you for other things that look like ADHD.
And these drugs can be abusing and very hard to get off of and should never be stopped just like that they need to be slowly taken away from you.
A lot of these drugs are like speed and we all know they are what people use on the street to get a high and what it dose to the person brain.
My Son was on ADDERALL and then Concerta ,until we found out he was having Seizures wich is a side effects from these drugs. These drugs changed my son and we found out in 2006 and he still has Seizures every day even on Medicine and have not found one to stop them.
Also there are other things that look like ADD or ADHD the Doctors need to check for them,by checking blood levels and checking the brain and doing a EEG. Some Seizures can't be seen. And there is another lady son who has sensory sydrome wich can look like add and adhd. Thyroids can cause problems also and sugar levels.
Try taken Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12 and Omega 3-6-9 these are very good for your brain and can help you, they have helped my son with learning.
